The crankshaft is going to clean up at .010 on the rods & mains. I've been shopping for engine parts and found 3 suppliers that can provide almost everything.- Egge Machine - Based in CA, they make their own pistons here in the states, have a good website and offer catalogs - Pistons run $559 - Bearings (main, rod & cam) $673 - Valves $336
- Kanter Auto - Based in NJ, they make their own pistons overseas, have a good website and offer catalogs - Pistons run $432- Bearings (main, rod & cam) $384 - Valves $302
- Terrill Machine - Based in TX, I forgot to ask who makes their pistons but the valves they sell are stainless steel and produced in the US - Pistons run $280 - Bearings (main, rod & cam) $305 - Valves $240 - These guys don't have a website or catalog. You have to call and order over the phone, which is what I will be doing in the next couple of days.

I ordered engine internals yesterday Got all of this for just under $2k:
Picked up the crank today and got the pricing from the chrome shop. I'll keep the chrome number to myself but divulge that it's about what we have into the Camaro.
I need to send in the water pump, oil pump and fuel pump in for rebuilding. Hoping to get some more deconstruction done this weekend.Chris - HRPT Long Haul 03, 04, 05, 13, 14, 15,16 & 18

Over the weekend we actually worked on the car. There are 24 bolts that secure the body to the frame on our 56 Cadillac. 14 of those came out as they should. 6 snapped off. I had to grind the heads off of 3 and one was not connected to the body any more (rust). Of the 9 broken or ground out, there is access to the cage nut on 3 of those without cutting floor pans. So we have 6 that we will need to cut access to, fix the cage nuts and then patch the floor. Pretty good for a 66 year old car from Minnesota.

Gas tank is out. Looks very clean inside (not that I could get a good picture).

Got her moved off the lift in preparation for separation of body and frame. Still need to disconnect a few things and figure out exactly how I'm going to accomplish the separation reasonably safely.

As I wrote that I had an idea about how to separate the body and frame. I had this idea stuck in my head that I needed to lift the body up high enough to roll out the frame forwards or backwards. I just realized that I should be able to lift the back with one end of the rotisserie and the front with the engine crane from the side through the door and put the frame on dollies and slide it out sideways.
Before we can attempt that madness we need to get the following done:
Disconnect the e-brake
Disconnect the brake pedal
Disconnect the steering column
Remove anything we can from the firewall
Remove rear quarter windows?
Remove the doors
Remove the deck lid
Question: Should we take the front and rear glass out to save weight or leave it in for strength at this stage? Please chime in if you have an opinion. Thanks,Chris - HRPT Long Haul 03, 04, 05, 13, 14, 15,16 & 18

Opinion of mine - not knowing how sturdy the shell is, I might be concerned about breaking (cracking) the windshields if left in. So if you are replacing the glass then it might be OK to leave them in as I doubt they add that much weight. As to lifting the body off - crazy thought - could you roll it under the lift and use straps from the lift to the body to lift the body up?

I thought about using the lift to remove the body but unfortunately, it is not tall enough. I could use it to lift the back part though but then I'm stuck trying to figure out how to get it out from under the lift. Thanks again for the ideas.Chris - HRPT Long Haul 03, 04, 05, 13, 14, 15,16 & 18
