    Annie - Our 1956 Cadillac - Series 62 - 2 door Hardtop

This car was owned by my wife's maternal grandmother. She sold it to her sister's grandson Larry in about 1978. Larry had the body work done and had enjoyed it for the past 42 odd years, driving it around rural Minnesota to car shows and the like. As is our tradition at 74NovaMan's garage, we have chosen a name for our newest addition. Teresa's grandmothers name was Annie, so it seems only fitting that the car should share the name. While Teresa remembers riding in the Caddy with grandma behind the wheel, I first saw her on the day of Annie's funeral when Larry drove her ashes from the church to the cemetery. If I remember correctly, he had just got it back from the body shop and had to thrash a bit to make it happen. That was 1994.

Fast forward to 2015. We were on vacation in the Florida Keys and talking about family cars (we had just finished dad's mustang in 2014) and we wondered if the Caddy was still in the family. We called Teresa's mom who called another relative and in fairly short order we had Larry's phone number, as well as an indication that he probably still had the car. We made contact and he did still have the car and would consider selling it to us. Larry sent us some pictures and we set a date to go take a look. Here are a few of the pictures from our first visit:

She made her first appearance on BangShift on page 10 of the 65 Beetle thread. https://bangshift.com/forum/forum/ba...-beetle/page10. We ultimately decided that the time was not right to bring her home then and figured that may have been our one and only opportunity.

Since that time, we have talked about the car and our missed opportunity on a very regular basis. Many times over the years I wanted to call to see if Larry still had the car, but I did not want to call him unless I was serious about buying it. About 3 weeks ago, we decided it was time to make the call. Larry picked up the phone, still had the car and said he would sell her to us. We agreed on a price the next day and we picked her up last Saturday (May 2). Teresa's brother was kind enough to drive us down so that we could both drive the Caddy back (200 miles one way). When we arrived, a lot of Larry's family was there to say goodbye and we spent a little time chatting and Larry filled me in on the tips and tricks for the old girl.

THAT, Young Man, is a Cadillac! Not a Chevy truck with Caddy emblems. It looks like with just a little love she'll be stunning again. Please send her my love.

Thanks for all the kind words. She wasn't home for 24 hours and we just had to check out something. The seat covers on the car are not the original upholstery. The probably looked pretty decent when they were installed (in the late 60's or early 70's) but the front seat was coming apart. Here is what they looked like prior to our efforts:

Here you can see how the front cover has passed its useful life as well as peeks at the original upholstery:

MFG tag on the seat covers. These were probably professionally installed back in the day based on the hog rings and glue we found:

Speaking of glue, There was some type of vinyl installed on the back of the driver seat. It came off (the vinyl) but the glue remains. This same area on the passenger side is pretty much gone on the top of the seatback.
