Unfortunately our pick n pull closed down a couple of years ago. If only I had known I would have stocked up !. It was a property value kind of thing . You gotta pay what you’ve gotta pay .

Well THAT'S a bummer. I'd pull one for you (we have a decent PnP) but the shipping would be a killer.

as hard as this is to imagine, most of the Exploders exploded 10 years ago. What you're looking for is a classic part. UPullIt doesn't do classics. Find a mom n pop wrecking yard or look on car-part.com. thankfully most of them on there haven't got the popular parts memo... why, do you ask? well when I bought my NV4500 - it was $1000 delivered and with a warranty.

Also, don't trip over dimes to get pennies - at $600*- you could make your 8.5 stronger then a 8.8... no welding required. In that very vein, you could pick up a disk brake 8.5 from a later s-10 or s-10 blazer.... then your bolt pattern will match too.....

*and it's not $600. It's $600 plus brackets, plus doing something to make your bolt pattern the same, plus brake lines, and a adapted driveshaft.....

            • I spent all of my allowance on a 1999 Explorer 8.8 with 4.10 gears . In typical fashion I had it blown apart within 2 hours of getting it home. No surprises , everything looks great and the oil hardly stunk at all. Since I’m running a TH400 the 4.10s will get swapped for a set of 3.55s I have on the shelf. Around here most of the 8.8s for sale have had 3.73s , even if I had picked up one of those I’d still have to swap those as well. So the dirty work has begun.

Got work done this weekend !
Narrowed it by 1 1/2” narrower than the stock 7.5 just to tuck the tires a bit more . I’m going to order axles from Dutchman . Have any of you dealt with them before? .

can you buy their 'cut to fit' axles? you can save some bucks with them... basically they just make the splines go further onto the shaft, then you cut it to whatever length you wish. I used Nitrogear axles on my '40, one of them was a cut-to-fit.... works pretty slick.

These are c clip axles. Their axles will run between 300 and 350 a pair . Thanks for your input

I knew that.... forgot, but knew that... the 7.5 in my Fiat's axles interchange with the 8.8 (another random bit of useless information I carry around). Those are c-clip...

                      • I placed an order with Dutchman for a pair of custom length axles and on the same day received an order from Rockauto for a Richmond pinion yoke kit (yoke , u bolts , seal and pinion nut) . Upon opening said package I found a yoke with a parts tag that had no mention of Richmond what so ever. Upon googling the part number on the tag , I received info on this part from a far away land that surprisingly enough wasn’t China . I wasn’t impressed by the quality and the u bolts were the wrong size, way too narrow. So the lot was repackaged and sent back . The box that it all came in had the correct part number but no mention of Richmond. I’m thinking that Rockauto puts these “kits” together and sells them as Richmond or is Richmond slapping these kits together but who knows. I may look for another yoke or stick with the stock flange style yoke … ?

                        • When I set out on a project I get a vision in my head of how I want it to be as I’m sure we all do. Along the way things don’t necessarily go as we planned. One being my big brake upgrade, 15” wheels no longer fit which is fine at the moment because I have 16” wheels up front but I had planned on using a 15”. In search of a wheel that will fit , I like and is affordable hasn’t been easy. So while starring at the truck and pondering things over I came to the realization that I like wheels I have and why not work with what I have?. In my initial plan I planned on going with a MT drag radial in the rear. So a 15” wheel is needed for the particular tire I picked . I’m running Cragar Soft 8 wheels (16”front 17”rear) and they offer this wheel in 15” with the correct back spacing I need and in the Ford bolt pattern since I’m using a Ford 8.8. The other night I’m watching YouTube videos about rebuilding/narrowing/modifying 8.8s I learn how easy it is to modify the rotors to the Chevy bolt pattern. Great , so while ordering my new axles I have they drill them for the Chevy pattern , this way I can still use the wheels and tires I have now along with the drag radials . Before I narrowed the 8.8 I measured everything and I mean everything because I wanted everything to fit perfectly. I picked out the correct Cragar wheels with the Ford bolt pattern ( this was before I say the video) . Since I changed my mind and went with the Chevy bolt pattern it shouldn’t be a big deal I’ll just order the wheels with the correct pattern. No big deal right ? … well Cragar doesn’t offer this wheel with the correct back spacing in the Chevy pattern, Ford yes Chevy no . Soooooo in rethinking my plan I’m going to stick with the wheels I have and buy new tires all the way around that will give me the look I’m after and no drag radials. I’ll look for a sticky street tire that will fit … wish me luck .

This 17s on the front and 15s out back is a thing but to me it just looks strange.
