I have gotten use to the look. Didn't like the idea at first but really wanted to be able to stop.

      • If you’re going to run a 17 x 4 wheel your only choice is a drag tire unless as I’ve seen on YouTube where they pretty much force a 205 tire on and a lot of tire shops won’t even touch it …

        • As I was saying that I had a vision of how I wanted it to be but then realistically it really wasn’t the correct way to go … considering how the truck will be enjoyed.

17 X 8 - no drag tires (pizza cutters) here - we actually drive this car (a lot).

That makes much more sense. I was wondering how big brakes and pizza cutters played nice. I have a set of weld drag lite skinnies but I don't like street driving them some one pulls out in front of you they are pretty much guarantee to lock up. They do look good in my opinion.

              • Since I’m changing the gears from 4.10s to 3.55s this will be my first ever time setting up a differential. I know it can be very frustrating getting it correct but I’m up for the challenge . I’ve told my boys many times “don’t be afraid to fail”.

                • See if you can rent of borrow the set-up tools. I know guys do it without them but a friend came over and set up Mutt's with the tools and it's WAY easier. And it came out perfectly - no whine or errors whatsoever.

                  • I can truthfully say that my first ever attempt at a gear change is going well. I've watched some darn good videos and have read some fine articles on how to do so. One thing that I've done and makes the job easier in my eyes is to not use a crush washer and use a solid adjustable washer. I got lucky with the backlash , The original carrier spacer worked a treat. Ring gear backlash spec is .008 - .012 and I landed at .009. I'm stalled at setting the pinion depth because I've run out of gear paste and Amazon should be delivering some today. USA Standard/Yukon supply very little in their rebuild kits. None of the parts suppliers around here have any , I tried some Permatex Prussian Blue but I wasn't happy with it . The proper yellow stuff is the way to go.

On another note yesterday here in the beautiful Fraser Valley was the yearly Langley Cruise In . Man , there was a lot of cars and some mighty beautiful cars at that. It's a shame that you can't give each car the time it deserves , if you did you'd be here for days. It really has become a major show , Jimmy Shine attends the show and is the guest judge along with past winners and presents the Jimmy Shine Award of Excellence . Next year the winner will joint the other judges/winners and pick a new winner . Past winners are Japhands Kustoms , Gasboy Customs and Goodfellas Kustoms all local shops here . Thousands of people attend the show , I think many of them show up just to get a burger from the In & Out Burger trailer that attends yearly and the line up is looooong !

                    • 4.10 to 3.55 swap is done and I’m very confident that I did the job correctly. After you re & re the pinion a dozen times and likewise with the carrier you start to realize how it all works and like a wise man once said “if I can do it you can too”. A few things that I feel made the job less of a pain in the ass were that I didn’t have to do it under the truck. I welded up a simple rack to lay it in . The adjustable solid sleeve instead of a crush sleeve. I purchased a shim kit although the rebuild kit was some and as always the good folks on YouTube, thanks guys. I’m told my axles from Dutchman will ship sometime this week . Of course I’ll really know how well I did when it rolls down the street.

ID:	1342710 I received my Dutchman axles today and they fit perfectly. There’s always a little doubt about the info you give a company (I sure hope I measured that correctly) when they’re going to manufacture custom parts .

Good to know. It the MOWOG axle (MGB OEM) doesn't hold up I may be doing a similar axle and will need short shafts.

                              • Today I yanked the 7.5 diff out from under the truck. Since I have no need for it nor do I have room to store it in my little shop I listed it on Marketplace for $100. I wanted it out today, I don’t want to be tripping over it , sure I could have asked for more. It’s a 7.5 with a SSBC disc brake conversion, lots of miles and no strange sounds . Within an hour I had a reply and 3 hours later a young guy in a ruff S10 carted it away. As he said “ I’m stoked “ at the deal . I’ve sold plenty of parts and always at bargain prices . Sure I could have asked for more but we all can use a break from time to time in this hobby especially young guys trying to build their dream rides .
