I wasn't going to post this but, after catching up on some reading and seeing the article, BangShift Question Of The Day: Would You Ever Bring One You Sold Back?, I figured why not. This one will not get touched for a while, I have made the commitment of getting the Lincoln done as well as some house projects.
Story:
I bought this car off a neighborhood friend's dad back in 2007-2008, he was the original owner of the car. It was mint and I mean mint, the stereotype of old Asian guy clean fit this car. A few years later, the girl and I split up, she kept the car and that was the last time that I saw it. In 2019, she messages me on Facebook, trying to sell the car back to me. Not wanting to deal with her, I pass on it.
Fast forward to a few weeks ago. I go to a friends shop to get a torque convertor for the Lincoln. When I get there, I see a Probe sitting out back, a car that does not remotely fit in with what he does. So, I go look at the car and it sits different that most, I think... No way. I walk around to the back of the car and see the gold badges and exhaust. I think, HOLY CRAP THIS IS MY OLD CAR!! A little worse off than when I last saw it but, the car nonetheless.
I walk into the shop and skip the normal pleasantries and ask, what is the deal with the Probe. I am told, it is an employees car, he and his girlfriend bought it as a project with the goal of putting a LS4 into it. They since split and the car has been sitting since. The guy wants to throw the car away and the owner of the shop just wants it gone. I say, if he is serious about that, I will take it. So, the message is passed along.
I now continue on my way to the track as, the shop was on the way and I just needed to pick up the converter. I call my friend and say, you'll never guess what I just found. He takes a few guesses before I give him the hint of, it is a hatchback. Well, his mind goes to his old EG Civic. I had to let him down and say now but, it is from the same time frame. His voice now changes and says... THE PROBE?! I say yes sir. Come to find out he had been watching Craigslist and Facebook Market place, just wanting to see it pop up and know it is still around. His dad has asked about the car a few times as well.
Fast forward to the next Friday, I ask the shop owner if he has heard back from the guy. He is was given a 2 week notice to get the thing out. Well, 2 weeks and a day later, I get the ok to go get the car so, I call a friend who shows up with a truck and trailer and we haul the car off.
Once the car is home, I notice the plate on it expired in the beginning of 2017, the plate on it is still my now ex's plate. I start going back and looking at the time lines, sure enough, this guy bought the car from my ex and then never touched it again after parking it. Now, I really start looking at things, the car still has the same cabling for an amp/sub, head unit and other bits that are no longer available on it. Even the cold air intake that I made for it way back when, is there with the same flipping air filter on it.
Now, the plan is to back half the car and do some form of turbo V8. I went back and forth with different ideas, finish what I wanted to do with my 93 that I had at the time and turbocharge it and have fun driver, 4g/4b swap it and make it AWD (I have seen 3 4g swaps done, two in Europe with MX-6s and one 626 Hatch in Japan),
all were FWD and used stock motor mounts from what I can tell or, go the route of the Lincoln and skip past what I wanted and go for what it may be like today, if I still had it.
As of today, it has been washed once and somehow looks a bit better.
The seats and other bits have been sold off of it. With knowing that I want to back half it and such, pretty much everything but the roller is useless to me.
