Score. I searched high and low for the correct 460 frame perches. Initially, the only set I found was on Crites Restoration's site. They wanted $421 for a set. Holy Cow. I changed my search parameters a bit and found a set on ebay. Fingers crossed that they are indeed the correct ones.
EDIT: Nope, they are not. I FINALLY found a decent pic of the correct ones and the one's I bought are not right.

Well I got lucky. I swung by the local yard at lunch today and lo and behold, I found several cars with the proper stands. I didn't have tools or time, so I didn't try to get them out, but at least I know we have a source for the correct parts.

In spite of the ridiculous wind we are having here, Judd and I went and grabbed the perches. I took the cordless angle grinder with us and we just cut the nuts off the bolts. It worked great as I doubt we could have accesed the backside of the top 2 on each side. They are tucked back up inside the frame behind the lower control arm. We also found a throttle cable in usable condition. All for a whopping $15.

Camshaft arrived today! I think it was the last engine part Judd needed. He started assembling the short block on Saturday. Crank, rods and pistons and core plugs are all installed.Last edited by BBR; March 7, 2022, 10:27 AM.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

I cleaned the disgustingly filthy transmission crossmember and the transmission lines. The pic is after cleaning. It was a blob of goo before I started. The air shock lines are installed and the 390 engine perches are out. Judd lapped valves last night and is ready to assemble the heads.

Judd installed the cam (276/284 Lunati Voodoo), timing set, and banged a new front seal in the timing cover. Then he assembled the cylinder heads.

New master cylinder is in and we started plumbing the line lock. I mean every car needs a line lock, right?I literally took the brake line loose from the master cylinder, flipped it 180 degrees and where the fitting ended up, that is where I bolted the line lock to the fender.
Once we have the brakes all fed and bled we will roll it out and clean the engine bay real good with the pressure washer.

Love love love this thing. Holy cow - two boys in two of the finest military learning establishments on the planet! Good thing they got their brains from Momma's side! LOL
I gotta tell you the southern car envy is high with this one - NOTHING this clean in this age range is around in the rust belt, let alone the cars in the yard that would have the right frame side mounts. Gotta Love Texas! Really look forward to following along with this one! There's always something new to learn.

Best I can tell, they got their logic from me and how to be an actual caring, thoughtful and social human being from their Momma.
We are having fun with this one. I am REALLY trying to keep my hands off and let Judd do all the wrenching, but he tells me to go ahead and do some stuff. Usually it's menial stuff like cleaning parts, but it all has to be done so I don't mind.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

Lee is 12 now, he's got some interest, but the attention span and attention to detail is not there yet. He'll do a little on the comet if I'm out there with him, but so far he's not much into doing any of it on his own. I have gotten him to sand blast parts - some friends have paid him a few bucks to blast parts for them, and he's mowing the lawn, so, there's hope. There's always something new to learn.

Wait until he gets closer to getting his license. Jake was lukewarm about working on stuff and learning things. Then about the time he got is learner's permit, his interest shot waaay up. Judd has always been the kid who wanted to be doing whatever I was doing so his interest curve was significantly flatter. I never really pushed car stuff on either kid, but I made sure they knew I would help, offer advice, or whatever, should they want to work on something.Life is short. Didn't have much time to work, but I did bend up a brake line to finish up the line lock plumbing.
