I was messing with this thing on Friday and made a discovery.

I was looking at the harmonic balancer and noticed that the line painted on it was on the 10° BTDC mark.and not the 0 mark like I thought it was. Yikes. I have been using that mark as 0 with my dial back timing light! It has had waaaaaay too much timing for quite some time now. Haha.

Stock base timing is 10 degrees. I usually bump that a bit, so I probably had 14 degrees of extra in there. The ECU then adds timing onto that. Yowza.

No knock or rattle ? I'd guess when it faintly starts it the computer turns the timing back some .

Only once when I was pulling the Ranger home. I chalked it up to it being 95+ degrees outside and driving up hills pulling a trailer. These things don't have knock sensors so they would just ping themselves into oblivion. EEC-IV is fairly crude.

It really seems to run down the highway better. Duh. Silly thing was prob commanding 35° of total timing and I was throwing an additional 14 on top of that. Haha.
