  • squirrel's 55 chevy

I gave my car a good washing today. I jacked it up and got most of the salt off Thursday at my friend's house in Vegas, but today I jacked it up again, pulled off the wheels, and got the remaining bits off, then gave it a good vacuum on the inside and washed the outside well.

Oh....no problems on my trip, I guess it's not really a project car after all

Jim, how many miles have you racked up on that motor and blower?

      Re: squirrel's 55 chevy

I bought the LS-7 and blower in 1990, put 20k miles on it in my truck, then 30k more miles on it in this car before I overhauled it in 2001. Since then it's got another 33k miles on it.

so that's about 83k miles with one overhaul. When I overhauled it I honed it .002" and replaced the rings and bearings, and gave it a valve job. I've replaced the cam a few times, last time I put in a roller so hopefully it will last longer.

I was surprised that I didn't have to fix anything. Usually I do

                I can count two things:

                1. You need to either increase or decrease the space between roll bar bracing and backseat for passenger use (depends on encouraging or discouraging...either way, that looked like a gymnastic routine to me)

                2. Y'know, for such a low-key car/owner combo, you might want to fix something...that was a LOT of snapped necks as you left the Nugget..and I thought that poor kid was going to pass out when you mentioned a price! :D

I know he has them, I watched him take pics at a car show he and I attended. It looked like digital camera too....

Having ridden in Jim's ride I can tell y'all it a VERY cool car. A bit tricky to enter the rear but worth it (I developed a patented method). The interior is as nice as the rest, which scores points in my book. The engine starts and runs reliably and it's very docile - until he hits the loud pedal. I'm not basically a Tri-Five guy, but his could occupy a spot in my shop any day. And what better car to cruise Wendover during Speed Week? It was a great experience - THANKS Jim!

Best thing I can say...the car fking rocks, the motor isn't babied, the car is used well, and it isn't overdone. I love it. And he drives it everywhere, like it's just another day...perfect idea of how it should be.
