I'm basically a Chevy guy at heart . But not to long ago I heard that G.M.C stands for Gentle-mens Chevrolet. I I'm at the point where I can own either. My to favorite truck bodies are the 49 thru early 55 Chevy like Anthony's or the 56 Ford. Third place the 55 thru 53 . Anyway I'm not a fan of that year of GMC grill while the Chevy one I love . I wouldn't sell the old GMC one though . Great garage/ bedroom wall art . I'm going the other way though. I'm going to take the grill and fender flairs off my 2000 GMC and switch them with the ones off my recent 2001 Chevy . Migraines..... I've had 3 in my life . Both times I found a dark bedroom and some painkillers and came out when it was over . Fortunately I seldom ever have any kind of headache. So when I do get even a little one it is the perfect reason not to go to work and watch YouTube car truck stuff .

I'm just the guy putting it together, I'm sure Anthony will hold onto the GMC stuff, but this isn't a GMC truck.... it's a chevy truck with a GMC grill (GMC is simply a Chevy with lockwashers)

I'd be happy if I had less then 3 migraines a month

Lady Paula can have and function for days with a migraine. I'm dumbfounded at the ability to do so . I think her longest one lasted a week and a half. She used to get one a week but now it's only like one a month. She does still get a headache a week but according to her they are childs play. Anyway, I did recognize it was a chevy that needed a Chevy grill . Unlike mine that is a Chevy but needs a GMC grill . And I would post pics but this thread isn't about my junk .

thriving with "disability" is what this is all about. I have a migraine every single day (which probably informs on days I have less patience with the trolls). I have to treat it sometimes about 10% of a month, other months 50%.... I have a variety of coping mechanisms - but it's always there. I can live with it or not, the world doesn't care. Part of it is suck-it-up, but the other part is controlling what I can control

with that said, modern medicine makes it livable.

*and to clear this up for the trolls - I've had the daily bit for more then a decade (nearly 2 decades), not looking for sympathy or anything but saying this - we all have to fight something (or lots of somethings). In my case, I see others in far worse condition then me, which makes me blessed. Would I wish it on my enemy? no. But I wouldn't trade it for my enemies troubles.

Mr. Stokes... I've been pondering how to give this truck a patina paint job without looking like fauxtina.... so a thought. What if we did the body work, put on a really good black primer then sealer. Then use oxide red - one coat. Then paint it the green he wants but only one coat of single stage and minus the UV protectants. Once dry, we'd start the process with red scotch brite to expose the under colors but then leave it to naturally age from there....

the key question here is what's the downside of leaving the UV protection out of the paint. It would have UV protectant in the black sealer.... would it just be a mess or would it be an evolving paint job - the longer he has it, the more it shows signs of aging....

In other news, a LS3 and 6L80e is arriving tomorrow.....there will be no unboxing. Just a picture of a box.

I've never messed with patina 'cause I don't like it. So I got nothin'. But if you check with your paint store folks they might have some insight - I rely on them heavily as paint tech evolves rapidly. If they're any good they go to seminars regularly to keep up.

it's funny, I've had some fails - and ultimately, I try not to do them again.... however, this time, I'm looking for what would seem to be a fail but really isn't.

As far as patina, I loathe faux patina. But a car that's survived all the years and looks like it's been loved for all of them? count me in. As I said, my FJ40 is a patina rig in process.... it's got blemishes, mistakes, but I think that's cooler then the perfect rig or the faked rig...

So come on Dan, I know it's been a long long time, but painting fails... I suspect that even you've had a few... use as inspiration the doctor who though "I love my wife without wrinkles, so let's put some botox on her face"... "damn, it worked"

If your going through that much effort , I vote make it pretty . A nice single stage paint in whatever color he likes .

If your bound and determined to patina it up , the best advice I have is ( and I by no means say it's the best advice ) There is a YouTube show called " Off the Ranch " and he was redoing a C4 Corvette ZR1 . Now the guy that did the patina / wrap on the Vette had a Newish Camaro the he painted . They explained how to do it on one of those shows. At this point , that's all I got .

I looks like it was cross posted to the guy that did it. I'm no good at coping links but here is a screen shot. I watched it again and it seems the sprayed it with placti-dip and sprinkled iron oxide in the top coat . Click image for larger version

to remind - this isn't my car. Do I wish it was? absoflippin' lutely. He wants a chevrolet truck that matches a scale model truck he did when he first started out. It was his first 'change' vehicle - meaning, originally, it was taking pictures of models as-built. He patina'd a model truck that started his career. He wants this truck to look like that. I honestly think he's onto something because rather then slamming it and making it show-only, he wants to be able to go anywhere on dirt roads and fields.... so it will have narrowish wheels, hubcabs, 'stock' height - and snub the show cars. Or maybe he'll decide when we're full into it to build a show truck.... either way, I have a lot of influence on the mechanicals but very little on the asthetic..... and honestly, it's the perfect build.

                              okay.... so some exciting stuff
we got the first, major delivery (actually two)

                              LS3, 6L80e trans, wilwood brakes....
this will be interesting to fit

yes, I spec'd a 450 hp LS motor and 6 speed automatic trans, an Art Morrison chassis, vintage air, power windows. My goal is this truck outlasts Anthony without any major problems. Yeah, I hit it out of the ballpark. Why? as he gets older, he'll start modifying this truck (or maybe not, maybe he'll drive it around the world).... but this is future proof. Chassis has rack and pinion front, ford 9" rear, disk brakes all around....

anyway, truck is on its way but the frame is still late June/early July ETA.
