Yep. Doing a project thread for the Yamaha.

This is a 1983 IT175K that I picked up locally. The plan is to get it running and then start on the cosmetics.

I have 99% of the parts. Seems to have compression but I have not messed with it yet. Seems to have been ridden quite a bit but doesn't look abused. The pipe only has one dent. I believe the front tire is the 40 year old original.

This was the ultimate bike in my mind when I was a youngster. My cousin had one and my next door neighbor had one, so it was the bike I always drooled over.

For me it's Kawasaki Mach III - usually called an H1 in print. I had 2 of them in the day but nowadays a decent one is big bux so no longer affordable - and maybe I'm too old to ride a rocket ship.

Pressure washed it for a long time today. Got it cleaned up pretty good.

I discovered a few more parts are missing, but I should be able to source them.

One major part I was missing was a complete carburetor. It came with most of a carb, but was missing the spring, slide, needle and clip, at least. I *could* have ordered a Chinese carb for it for about $40, but man, I'd really rather not do that. It is a regular old Mikuni VM34 that came on a billion different bikes over the years. I found several for sale on ebay and picked one that looked the most complete/least screwed with. It was quite a bit more than $40, but is the correct carb for the correct year bike.

A stator cover for it arrived today and I also ordered a flyweel nut for it. I still need to get a set of engine seals and gaskets. I want to replace the crank seals, well at a minimum, the stator side seal, because it can dry out and crack. The reeds look great, so I won't be messing with them.

Fork boots: I can't find yellow boots for 38mm forks, but read that the 43mm boots will work ok.

I drained the oil yesterday and was less than thrilled.

There was brown water, black oil, then finally gray oil. The phillips head screws are super tight, and my impact driver was at home, so I have not pulled the clutch cover yet.

I'll pop it off today, take a peek a give everything a nice brake clean bath.

I bought my Blue Point impact driver to work on my brother's Honda Benley 150 - must have been 1964 or so and I still have it. I can't imagine Phillpis screw (or JIC or whatever they call those Japanese ones) life without one.

Got the cover off and it didn't look too bad inside. The clutch plates were all stuck together and the clutch basket has quite a bit of wear. Not 100% sure how to fix that just yet. I have not found a source for new clutch baskets.

But nothing was rusted and the gray goo was just aluminum residue from the basket mixed with old clutch material.

I did some research and discovered that 1980-1983 IT's use the same clutch basket. Surprisingly, I found a decent one in Canada for an '81 that looks to be in great condition and was priced right. Gotta love the CDN to USD conversion rate. Haha.

New/used carburetor arrived today. I had a mild moment of panic when I got a "delivered at front desk" notification but USPS was nowhere to be found. It finally showed up a couple of hours later.

Anyway, it wreaks of old gas, but looks to be in good condition. I am happy that I went ahead and bought the proper carb for it instead of cheaping out and putting a Chinese carb on it.

I also wire wheeled the pipe and silencer and shot them with some high temp paint. I wish I could find an aftermarket aluminum silencer for it. I bet this stock one is completely full of goo.

You'd think someone would make refurbishment sleeves for old clutches. Similar to what Rekluse uses in their stuff.
