Finally back together. I used a thermal switch out of an 84 Dodge kcar to turn on the fan. Sitting in the shop idling, the temp comes up to an indicated 210? and then the fan comes on and the temp starts going down. It seemed to come down to about 190 and stay there. I made a new core support piece (PITA) to hold the left side to the right side and hold the radiator and locate the fan. Turned out OK considering how many times I screwed up making it. The fact that the rad is farther forward means the stock hood latch would not work. Hello hood pins. FYI, Spectre brand hood pins are junky. Well the pins themselves are very nice, but the cover plates are stupid thin and really easy to bend.

I think I need to go back to my old camera. The flash on this one is way too intense.

Rad is about as far forward as possible. lol

    Very cozy in there.

    Pinned hoody.

This thing is starting to feel like a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. Just when you think you are there, somebody up and moves the end of the damn rainbow.

I wanted to get it out today, but after yesterday's torrential rain, I might have needed 4wd to get down my alley.

Oh yeah I also installed a power inverter so I can run a laptop in there all the time, adjusted the BBR-tracs to the upper hole, fixed a leaky dipstick tube o-ring, relocated the trans coolers from the front to under the bed (turned out nice I might add) and took a semi-bath in trans fluid. I hate that stuff.

Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

ATF is chemically engineered to find and cover the nearest human. It's uncanny.

Personally, I think it's engineered to find the closest hair folicle..... works as a great conditioner, though.

I have a friend who is a Chem E (that's Kim, Keith). She tells me that the original engineering was just to have it find a human but the hair follicle thing was an unexpected benefit. Kinda like the discovery of Viagra's effects.

ATF is an exceptionally good detergent - cleans all sorts of stuff.... really well, just by soaking in it a while.

Not a good thing to work in bare handed alot tho - a friend who's a trans tech full time has had cancerous growths removed from both hands..... wear those gloves!

This sounds like just what I need for the 500Cadillac Mustang project. I'm using a HHR fan as well...... where did you put the switch? Block or radiator? Does it have 2 terminals and you only use 1? Got a part #?

I apologize for all the questions, just excited to see how yours is wired up.... ;D

I put it in the intake manifold water crossover.

                Part number is: SW514

This switch is insulted from ground so you have to use both terminals.

This thread has a link to a listing of thermal switches.

                  Sweet, thanks.

So the Wells SW514 is the same thing as the '84 Dodge K-car fan switch? Interesting....

Yep that was the application that came up when I looked up the switch. I just went to Autozone and said I need a SW514 and they looked up the part number to verify that they had one and went back and got one.

                      Lovely.

Cylinder head is pocked up pretty good.

Passenger side has some trash too.

good news is I just picked up my new-to-me block. ;D
