  • Here is the mother load of sway bar info.

Lots of good ideas to be seen here

P.S.- Stiney, that Taurus bar won't work, way to short on the width and ends.

This is what I had in mind for the front and back of my car, a sprint car kit, just with some different mount brackets. I would like to mount the rear bar inside the car with links going down through the floor to the top of the axle tubes. That will also remove some unsprung weight from the rear axle.

        • Coil-over success! The new coil-overs and swaybar mods made a huge difference at todays AutoX. I know more positive caster and negitive camber has to be added in the front alignment but, overall the the front grip increased by a ton.

Up next is to measure for the rear coil-overs, then fit a set I like/can afford and add some bigger rear brakes.

          • I cooked up a quick cold air intake setup today. $10 dyer vent, a spare air cleaner box that came with the car, and some reflective furnace tape on the base to keep the turbo heat away. I epoxyed a piece of screen in the port, and will run without a filter for now.

On hot muggy days the carb gets so hot from the turbo after making two autocross laps, it starts to vapor lock. I'm hoping this will cool things off alittle and make a horse or two.

            • Bud, cut a hole in the cowling right behind the cleaner and suck air from the base of the windshield. Looks like you wouldn't need any of that high tech laundry tube, and it won't heat soak while you're waiting in line.

And the air is cooler as you get it further from the track surface.

              • I thought about that Bob, just kinda afraid rain water will find it's way down to the carb. The car is out in the weather 24/7 so this will work for now, till I can make something work from the cowl area.

Bigger issues anyways, after looking locally for a daily driver Mustang, anf finding overpriced junk, I've decided to make this thing street legal(barely) again. The part of having it sit on an open car trailer all the time, with all the investment I've put into it, the few hundred bucks it will cost to make it road worthy is cheaper in the long run than having a second car, and this thing will be a hoot to beat on on the street. I bet it gets ok gas mileage too.

                • This is the cold air pan I built for the 70 Mustang I use to have, something like it, only using the cowl hood scoop instead of a forward facing scoop is what I'm aiming for in the end.

                  • How does the turbo on this car work, I guess I am confused because I normally see a blow thru carb setup...does it force feed into the intake?
If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you have enough horsepower. - Mark Donohue

                    • The turbo Joe, is part of the intake manifold. It uses a cross over pipe from the exhaust manifold, and the carb is mounted ahead/on top of the compress housing, so yes, it's a draw thru carb deal. It may not be high tech but, it works pretty dam good.

                      • Ran an AutoX Saturday, made one good pair of laps, then on the second run, lost oil pressure and she started a knockin'.

After it cooled off, the pressure came back alittle but, rattled still when rev-ed.

Not sure what the next move is, bearing and pump the SVO mill and swap them, yank the 79 engine and meatball overhaul sure I can race the rest of the 11 Autox season, or bite the bullet, and put a 347cc V8 in it like my gut is telling me?

if you put the SVO engine in will it be EFI or carb? If EFI that would be my vote, just b/c I have always wanted one. How would the extra weight of the V8 make it handle on the autox? I guess the extra power would make it?

how are the street legal mods going?

                            Escaped on a technicality.

                            • If you go for the EFI stuff, I would be willing to buy the carbed turbo stuff off of you assuming you want to get rid of it and I can come up with the scratch. I have been eyeing that setup ever since I saw one trying to figure out to to stick one on the Escort.

                                Boy that's a tough call!
I love the turbo 4 world, drive one every day. But man, the simplicity and reliability of the old pushrod v8 is sure something to think about.
