  • An aluminum headed SBF weighs the same or less than the Turbo-4.

    • Yeah, Bob's on to something there. My plans have been derailed alittle by the wife not wanting to be the wife anymore so, as soon as that ass ache is done, I'll get back on track with the engine problem.

I may go for the 20/50, or straight 50 weight oil trick to run the next two AutoX's, only need to make a run to get the points so.....

Started gathering $FREE.99 V8 engine install stuff but, pulling the pan on the SVO mill on the shop floor, and bearing-ing and oil pumping it, with new gaskets, yank the 79 mill, swap the carb/intake/turbo, dist, and exhaust, and drop it back in, may not take that much cash or effort.

Walt, I have another whole complete intake/turbo/carb set up if your truly interested.

        • I wouldn't run thick oil unless you make absolutly certain to have the oil at operating temp before taking off. If not you'll have stripped dizzy gears in your future. I say yank the SVO mill down, do the parts swap and make it through the season.

Sorry to hear about the other issues, best of luck.

          • Well, shits.....sorry about the bad stuff going on, Jeremy. Keep yer chin up.

Parts-swap would be the cost-effective way to go for certain.....I'm all for a bent-8 in that thing, but may as well use what's there while you can, finish up the rest of the season.

                • Thanks guys for the shoulder, broken cars are easy for us men to fix, broken women on the other hand, not so easy.

Russell, Arild, these turbos have the compresser housing casted so it's part of the 2.3 intake manifold, won't work for using like you guys think, and trust me, I've looked into it working, twins on a V8 lol!

I've realized there will be lots of racing and wrenching time in the future, family matters need to come first so, this tread my get mothballed for awhile.

Again, Thanks for the support guys.

                    • Cam and I nursed the low oil pressure express to a local car show today, one that him and I had taken the 70 Mustang I had to every year, so we hooked up brake and turn signals and borrowed a buddies Dealer plate and off we went.

Got a third place trophy to boot, lucky there were only 3 cars in the class lol.

Now that the dust of divorce is settling, I'm having visions of a 5.0L Coyote crate motor+Fox= Wolf of an autocrosser. More on that later.

                      • Just picked this up this morning, an 87 5.oL HO with B303 cam and old school Torker 289 intake, that my friend Dave was running in a mud Jeep he has. This has been in the corner of his shop for years as a spare to 408cc Windsor he is running now. I got the "get it out of here price" of $150. Tough to beat that.

I also sold all of the 2.3L Turbo stuff for $800 to my friend Josh, that is going to Pinto power a VW Dune Buggie he is building. The money balance between the two deals is going towards headers, an MSD dist.,solid motor mounts and a carb plus the refreshin stuff.

So, short term plans are to get the V8 tore down, hot tanked, cleaned, and put back together with fresh bearings seals gaskets and an oil pump and timing chain, and get it in the car before Halloween for the last few Test & Tunes at the local 1/8 drags.

Totally agree, but it sounds like Jeremy is for the most part doing this all on his own and nothing beats an old American V8 for the perfect combo of reliability and power.
Developing unique stuff is both awesome and a pain in the ass.

                            • Yeah, the 2.3L was fun to play with, challenging, and somewhat rewarding but, low end torque is what works for Autocross events held on small, short coarses. I just read about the new Ford BOSS 351 block that is out and able to go to 461cc, and also made in aluminum!!!!!! My ultimate engine combo would be an alloy BOSS 351 at 420+ CC and 12-1 compression, with an automatic trans behind it.

Still, I will always have a sweet spot for the little Pinto popper

                              • BUMP>>>>>>>

Just blew the dust off the old whore, charged the battery, and have it headed to the garage from the the storage trailer to remove the oil pressure-less OE 2.3, transplant the carbed/turbo set up to the SVO longblock (which is currently getting gaskets and seals, along with maybe a fresh valve job if my engine guy can do a quick turn around).

Due to a few other projects and paths of life stoking in the fire, I'm sure not where the project is going afterwards, kinda in a funk automotively speaking. It may go to a new owner along with it's car trailer to help fund a new 2013 GT purchase, or it may get 4.56 gears and get whooped like a rented Mule at the 1/8 bracket drags every Friday this summer, just not sure yet.
