BBR's 83GT - 552 BBF version 3.0 (at least)

For my crank trigger I used a cherry hall and MSD crank trigger pieces. The individual pieces to build one are cheap from MSD and they sell a "blank" sensor mount as well. I drilled and tapped it for the cherry sensor. However, the sensor is an odd M12-1 thread and I never found any low cost taps for it, I got lucky and a friend's grandpa had one for whatever reason. I didn't have the clearance on the wheel side to use the supplied nuts or I would have done that. Using the MSD bracketry made for a nice rigid mount that looks way nicer than anything I could have hacked out.

I think it was like $85 or so for the few pieces I had to get from MSD, evidently most of the cost is in the wheel and sensor when it comes to the full MSD kit.

Both mine are made of boxed aluminum.

This has been on the Skylark since 2010 or 2011. The bolt tightens up into a threaded boss on the timing cover then the backing nut lets me adjust the angle of the bracket. Then of course the threaded sensor lets me set the depth.





The Firebird conveniently had a pair of bolt holes lined up to bolt square tubing too.

Worked on the Mustang a bit this past weekend. I finally welded the arb tabs on the new housing, turned out ok. These tabs are far more robust than the ones on the other housing. Then I poked it in the car and buttoned it all up.


All tucked back in where it belongs.


Using Randal's mount as inspiration, I made a mount for the Cherry crank sensor. It needed to tuck up real tight to the timing cover because the 36-1 wheel will be mounted behind the hatchet weight.


The pic makes everything look a lot closer that it really is. That edge of the timing cover that looks like it is lined up with the tip of the sensor is quite a ways away.

Did you get lucky with a handy timing cover bolt? The fule pump block off plate looks like a nice candidate for a bracket to mount from if not.

The timing cover bolt is in the perfect place and keeps the mount nice and simple. Thinking of putting a stud in. I think I have one that will work.

I think I have all the pieces-parts to get this ignition project done. Instead of making my own DB37 connector, I just went ahead and ordered one from DIY-EFI. It arrived while I was on vacation. My boys will be attending a tennis camp at the Naval Academy next week and Julie is going up to visit her niece in DC, so I will have some garage time to maybe get this thing all together. Whoo hoo!

I don't know the capabilities of MS1 vs MS3 but I loved taking my water pump and fan control over to the ECU. It manages it very well and works great. I can leave the key on and it will run the fans and pumps to a set temp and then shut them off. I also set the fans to shut off at a certain RPM and TPS position.

The setup is looking good!

It has the capability to control all that. That's how the Ranger was setup. I also had an electric vacuum pump on the Ranger set to turn on at xxxx rpm.

I too have the 1k resistor up in the harness so if I had to swap the sensor I wouldn't even be messing with the resistor. The sensor pictured, and I use, has 3 wires, not four. I'm assuming it's a brain fart on the wire count.

Wait, a 1K resistor, you running 5v or 12v? The Cherry docs show 1k for 5v use and 2.4k for 12v.

I'd have to go dig up the resistors, but I'm fairly sure I'm using 1K's and I got zero signal with it hooked up to 5v, but worked just fine on 12v. I haven't changed the Skylark's resistor since it was installed in 2011.

I made the mod in mine internally for the cherry sensor, I am running 5V and have a 1K installed inside the MS

I think I am going to try 5v first and see if it works since the MS has a nice 5v output handy.

I just realized I do not have a tach output now. Crap. More stuff to buy and make.

Did you have to use your tach output for something on the EDIS?

The tach on the Mustang is a high voltage tach (12v), originally driven off the coil. So I have to make a small circuit with diodes that is tapped into the 4 high voltage (12v) spark leads (from the driver to the coils) to generate a single tach signal. Not hard, just one more thing to do. Haha.
