Well here's what I had up my sleeve. It's a 68 Hemi Dart scoop from VFN. I considered a cowl hood but it would have needed to be pretty big to clear and figured I might as well go with a forward facing scoop. I also considered some scoops that were more 'Ford' but the stock 83 hood has an enormous hole in it that I needed to cover. This one seemed really bulky at first but now I'm really liking it. I just hope it stays on at 120 mph.

you know I'm gonna ask this - how's it look turned around? Probably not enough clearance. The hood will need paint now... Subtle it aint... ha cha cha cha cha
I'm getting used to the wider at front part.Last edited by Beagle; January 27, 2013, 05:52 AM.Flying south, with a flock of bird dogs.

I think I would like it better if the whole hood was red or black.

I flipped it around when I first got it and it didn't even come close to fitting. Besides the angle of it did not match the hood so it looked pretty wonky.
There is a spot on the hood that the bondo is cracked so I might fix that and then paint it all black.... Maybe. HahaLife is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

I figured you tried it backwards already... also kinda thought that it wouldn't be tall enough with the angles being what they are. The paint should really help blend it in, the changing angle " X " on the black is screwing with my eyes. There's no way to put a big scoop on here that I'm not gonna say "I like the stock hood" to, much like CDMBill's. I'm not even a big fan of Boss 9 hoods - love the style, hate the size. Kind of a picky bitch I am, so take what I say as worth zero!
Can you get a shot straight at it so we can get an idea on the carb clearance? It looks like that big mother sucker is up in the air now. How close to the bottom of the scoop is it?
Also, can get a picture of the side where the hood ridge is? I know what a perfectionist you are... curious to see how you make it fit.Last edited by Beagle; January 27, 2013, 08:22 AM.Flying south, with a flock of bird dogs.

That look like a lot of great memories!!! I had 2 carbbed 04's, 4 eyed mustangs look so much better than what we called flat foxes. It took Ford a long time to get the mustang to look like it was pissed off when you look at it from the front. Chevy was real good at that with the vets. 99 Ford finally was back on track, 87 - 95 the lights remind me of the special children I use to see with my brother.
Good luck. I hope it comes out perfect!

Here's a shot from the front. It does not clear the air filter by much, but that is a 3" element. I used to run a 2.5" with the drop base filter and stock hood. As for fitting, I had to curve the back and notch the sides but I did not get too anal about it. It looks ok, but will not win any beauty contests.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

I think it's time to pin the hood, and satin black the whole thing - I put a boss9 scoop on a 70 and it used to lift the hood hinges up about 1/4" at 100ish - at 120 with that thing - you're going to be attempting to pull the front wheels again.
I'd want the added security of hood pins.
Satin black and some seam sealer around the base of the scoop - hope there's no electrical connections directly under the water drain path of that huge hole....
can you get a 4" element on it if you run the drop base? There's always something new to learn.

In order to use a drop base with a Dominator, you have to change to a 16" diameter air filter element. That would probably make my clearance worse and would likely hit the top of my distributor.
It's pretty dang solidly mounted. I used 11 bolts to hold it on!Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

11 bolts huh - great - that means the scoop is secure to the hood - but what's holding the hood down?
I'd hate to see you pulled over at the top end with the hood folded over the A pillars and roof.
Just lookin out for ya - I want to see that happy dance again next year! There's always something new to learn.

Maybe I'll give it the prybar test before making a pass. Then again a smashed hood might be a good excuse to buy a fiberglass one.... hahaLife is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

I did hood pins on the Ranger. Meh.
I might do a simple underhood 'lanyard'-type thing as a fail safe.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.
