I'm being an idiot and should have thought about that question a bit before asking. A lot of the two stroke junk I used to play with had copper shims between Al heads and Al / steel lined or iron jug. We'd paint those if they looked leaky... but that was back when a gasket set for my junk cost more than the entire bike was worth, so it got put back together with whatever a lot of times. Many a trip to the Bates motorcycle boneyard to scrounge decent looking used parts... (HEY F*ER Don't step on that, it looks like it will fit my 100!)
I'm with you, I'd go with whatever the gasket manufacturer recommends. If it eats another set though... I'd get a voodoo woman named Phyllis to remove the curse from that sucker. grin.Last edited by Beagle; September 28, 2011, 03:43 AM.Flying south, with a flock of bird dogs.

Haha I originally read that as BBR's 'Small Block Mopar'. lol Sadly, my luck with BBF's has been so lousy even a 318 sounds like an upgrade. lmao
Heads are back on! (yes Neal, 18 days too late). I'm glad I'm tall because getting into position to torque those bad boys to 140 ft.lbs wasn't easy! Torqued in 3 steps 75-105-140. try torqueing a diesel head James! Lordy my back still hurts some times from that operation - also 2 steps to full torque...
Sure hope this is the end of your head gasket woes and the beginning of a beautiful relationship with the latest revision of your BBF.

I'm merely the MC, these other guys bring the show.
Heads are re-torqued, rockers and pushrods are cleaned and reinstalled but not adjusted yet.
