83 on slicks, 03 on street tires. My money is on the red car. I would worry more about the stock axles than the clutch.

Car is loaded and we are ready to go in the morn.
I drained the 87 fuel so I towed down to the local Sunoco station and put some 94 octane gas in it.
Jeep tows niiiice. Gobs of power. It's like towing with a sports car. Haha. It's an little hard to see out with the smallish mirrors, but man it just scoots right along.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

Holy cow what a fun day. Jake, Judd and I left Amarillo at 5:30am and drove 250+ miles to Thunder Valley. Got there, got teched, and we both made passes. I made a baseline n/a pass the first time up. 14.00 @ 98. Bogged it a little off the line, but was very happy with it. Jake was running on street tires and ran 14.86 @ 95. The lanes were full so we didn't get to run next to each other. They had multiple down times so we only made one pass before the lunch break.
We pulled some timing and went back up with the "150" jets in it (59/59). It revs so fast in 1st on the hose, I missed 2nd, but it went 1.75 in the 60 and ran 12.68, so I was pretty optimistic it had a low 12 in it. Hot lapped it back to the lanes and Jonathan and I got paired up! Whoo hoo! Nitrous 302 vs. nitrous 302, both 5 speed cars, but his has better heads, cam, intake, and headers. I tree him, we ran identical 1.80 60's and we were dead even at the 330, but then he just motored on by. His car scoots!
I ran 12.28 @ 113 to his 11.40 @ 123. 12.28!!! I was soooooo stoked! They were saying they were going to close qualifying at 2:30, so I went back to the lanes again. This time was not as successful. I overrevved 1st or something and had a BIG nitrous backfire that wrecked the air filter lid and popped the hood. Haha. Singed the inside of the air filter and some wiring around the carb. lol Yowza. Went back to the pits and looked everything over and straightened the lid out with a hammer.
I upped the shot to 62 jets and I got paired up with a 12.5 second Cadillac. Got in the car and headed to the lanes for my group. Then disaster struck. I TOTALLY brain farted trying to remember which way was ON for the nitrous arming switch. It is supposed to light up, but I couldn't tell in the sunlight. So, I guess. Turns out, I guessed right, BUT I forgot to purge, so when I launched, it felt slow, so I wacked the switch, by which time the Caddy was way out on me. I lost. Bummer. But it did run 13.75 @ 101.
Car ran great all day, Didn't leak, water temp and oil pressure were super consistent and I drove it on the trailer at the end of the day. That is a total win. Jake made several runs and tried the 275/60 tires from the 83. He never bettered his first pass though. In the finals, his Buick didn't show so he had a bye.
Jeep: This thing is AWESOME. It tows sooooooo good. Way way way better than the Durango or the F150. That Hemi just has great power and the tow/haul switch keeps the trans shifting perfect. So happy with it.
Ford won by a landslide 49-11. Hung out with John (Gateclyve Photographic) some. He made a pass next to Jake. We got loaded up, went and ate with friends and got home around midnight. It was a looooong day.
Some awesome pics from the day from Jonathan, his wife and a couple others:

I use this panel form Spaghetti menders on my Fox, Switches have lights although they done always work, But I know that pushed in is 'on'. Panel sticks in slot where center vents used to be. long connector cables ( 15 pin computer cables) let me use it under car or by fender for testing with crawling over cage.2 PhotosLast edited by CDMBill; October 23, 2018, 10:30 AM.Drag Week 2006 & 2012 - Winner Street Race Big Block Naturally Aspirated - R/U 2007 Broke DW '05 and Drag Weekend '15 Coincidence?

I was reflecting on this car's current engine/trans combo last night. To me it is a heck of a bang for your buck set up. Honed, stock bore 302, used rod/pistons, new rings, new bearings, iron D8 heads, mild hyf flat tappet cam, used carb and intake, homebrew HEI ignition, pieced together N2O kit and a junkyard 4cl T5. Most other stuff like the clutch, distributor, water pump, etc is just pretty much the least expensive stuff available thru Rockauto.
I really think it will run 11's with a little more nitrous and a good launch. A quick check with the calculator shows that "150" shot was probably pretty ballpark. Maybe more like a 130hp, so I think there is plenty of room to safely spray a little more.

That have been some skunk-work ramblings between Jake and I about some performance enhancing upgrades.....Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

Judd (my youngest) learned to drive it the other day. He made about 500 laps around the back parking lot learning to stop/start. I told him to get on it hard a couple of times. He came back with shaky legs. Adrenaline rush. lolLife is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.
