My 8.8 has 2.73 gears in it. I have a set of new 3.90's that came with it and I just snagged a set of take-out 3.55's for free.
The 2.73's are not an option.
So what to use? 3.90's or 3.55's?
I felt like the 3.90's would be a bit much since a 28" (275/60-15) tire is a close fit on a Mustang. Probably end up running a little shorter tire like a 275/50-15. So, I am leaning towards the 3.55's. Remember Drag Week is a possibility for this car's future.

What say ye?
When my EFI 87 5.0L had a fairly stock(ish) engine, just bolt-ons, the 3.55 ratio was the most all-around fun (that was with stock height tires). Pulled hard in 5th, 1st wasn't too short. I had also used 3.27 and 3.73 during various incarnations, but found 3.55 the best with the mild engine.

I don't think you will be hurting yourself to run that 3:55 for all the street time that car will see. If it wasn't for that converter, you could conceivably get away with the 2.73 for just crusin'... but what fun would that be?
