            • We got to Noble on Friday evening for tnt, found a good pit area and set everything up. There were quite a few cars out there. Lots of street tire cars and they had separate staging lanes for drag radial/slick tire cars and street tire cars. Made it nice for me because the slick lanes did not have many cars in it usually. I was running the car for the first time with open headers and I think I like it. It shakes everything in the car and just sounds nasty. I definitely may have to put some cut outs in.

Came up, made my first pass, totally zoned out and forgot to watch anything because I was neck and neck with a race car Mustang. 10.61 @ 128 He went 10.45.

Second pass, I zoned again as I forgot to watch the afr like I intended... 10.55 @ 125. I think I let out a little early on that one. That was a new best ET by 0.01. I decided that was all I wanted to do. I was tired and wanted to hit the hotel ,take a shower and get some sleep.

Saturday morning I made it to the track at 8:15 and there was a long line waiting to get in. I checked the DA (2500'), looked at the plugs and decided to jet the car up a bit. Went up 2 sizes front and rear, hit the staging lanes at 9:45am and the car ran it's best ET and mph ever. 10.46 @ 129.4!! With 1.488 60 foot.

I was itching to run quicker, so I jetted up the front side 3 more. Went back to make another run, and the burnout was a little weird. Staged, launched, car seemed lazy, pulled "second" and the rpms dropped a lot more than usual. I look down and I'm in 3rd. I had my finger on the lock-out trigger so I accidentally shifted 1-3, powerglide style. It was running funny on the return road, but oil and water looked fine. Picked up the time slip, an 11.13 @ 119, 1.57 60 foot, and pulled into the pits. I got out and popped the hood, looked down and saw this:

11.13 on 7 cylinders.... You see, I have to pull that plug wire in order to get to the bottom bowl screw.... I always knew I'd forget to put it back on someday and Saturday was that day! Disaster averted!

I let the car cool off and go make another run. Finger was on the trigger again. I shift 1-3-2-3 and run 10.58. Waited a while then went back one more time to get out of the habit of putting my finger on the lock out trigger. 10.50 @ 128. Ran next to a Buick GN that went 10.58, so it was a fun run. AFR's were 12.5 at WOT.

They closed the lanes shortly after that to get the ladder all worked up for eliminations. I ended up being the #18 qualifier and was paired up with a Buick with a giant hood scoop. Dude was all decked out in a fire suit, so I though I might have my hands full. Flash! Green! (pro tree) and I never saw him again. I think he spun or something because I didn't see him again until he pulled in behind me on the return road. Car went 10.54 @ 128.8 for the win.

I retrospect, I should have put way more air in the right air bag and jetted the front of the carb back down. Regardless, it was a super fun event and the car drove on the trailer at the end of the day.

I *really* wanted to trap 130.000000001 mph. However, the consensus among my friends was that 129.4 was close enough, so that's what I'm sticking with. haha

I've said it before, but man, I love this car.

Oh yeah, I was sporting my BANGSHIFT shirt and saw another dude wearing one too!

I have a few GoPro videos uploading right now so I'll post them later.

                  • Ford won 47 to 21 I think. Fastest Ford was Jon Faubion in his BBF powered 69 Mustang, 8.13 @ 160+ mph. Fastest Buick was a roots blown car that went 8.40's.

                        11's on 7 - that's just funny right there.

                              • Great stuff! I have done that shifter thing in the past also, now I make sure I don't rest my hand on the handle during the launch. We had some of those Mustang vs Buick races back in the day, they were loads of fun. The announcers used to work the crowd into a frenzy!
