    • Out with the Mustang and in with a new short term project! This trailer needs to have an axle replaced. I have a new axle and if all goes according to plan, JWS4621 will use it to haul his car to SEMA!

      • That is one interesting foot on that tongue stand.

        Mushy ground get surveyed much?

Surge brakes too! I like surge brakes - when they are still functional. Then would much rather fix electric brakes.....

        • Surge brakes should only be on boat trailers and rental trailers. I'd like to hear the story behind that tongue jack too.
There's always something new to learn.

          • Trailer equivalent of having your tongue pierced? I looks like that tongue jack would elevate the front of the trailer so it would be flatter to load/unload, which would be a good thing.

With surge brakes, can you adjust how hard they hit like with electrics? I always liked the concept but have never had a set.

            • Surge brakes sort of self adjust the hit. If the tow vehicle slows suddenly, the trail pushes harder on the ball, which pushes harder on the trailer master cylinder.

That's when they are working correctly.

When they aren't the trailer just jacknifes the whole rig.

              • This is an ex-rental trailer. It belongs to CDMBill. The axle got bent and it was eating one of the tires up. Eventually it killed a wheel bearing. The Sunday after DW, he called me from the West side of Amarillo as I was coming in on the East side. He asked if I knew of a trailer repair place that was open on a Sunday. No dice. The dead bearing assembly was not a normal trailer part and we did not know at the time that it was a Chevy Lumina wheel bearing assembly.... available at just about any parts store. Bill was on a fairly tight schedule to get back home. I told him he could use my trailer to finish his trip because after all, it was just going to sit in the backyard for the foreseeable future. So, after I unloaded my busted car, we loaded his '71 up on my trailer and they went on their merry way to California.

The cool part is, it was super easy to get a new replacement axle and a new wheel bearing.
The double cool part is, Jonathan is going to tow his '84 out to SEMA on it and Bill, who was going to SEMA as well, is going to meet him and swap trailers.
The triple cool part is, Bill is helping me find stuff to get the broken engine back together.
Whoo hoo! I love it when a plan comes together.

That tongue jack is odd because when you let it down, the ball receiver moves forward. So you get it all lined up, let the jack down and then have to pull forward to line the ball back up. lol

                • probably it keeps from bending the jack, when the renter forgets to raise it.

                  Nice plan....

                  • Yup, definitely and ex-U-haul trailer.

Quite and interesting swap with Bill, right on
                    Escaped on a technicality.

                        • Well my weekend was shot. My wife's Grandmother and Mother are moving to Amarillo, so we moved all of her Gma's stuff and a crap-ton of her Mom's stuff. It was a pretty whirlwind trip. kinda like this:

                          Leave Ama 6:46am
                          Arrive Ft. Worth 12pm
                          Pickup 16' Budget rental truck
Go to Mom's apt, load said crapton
Go to storage unit, load more of said crap-ton
Go to Gma's, load 85% of her stuff
                          Go to hotel
Go to bed.. painful wisdom tooth kept me awake most of the night
                          Get up crack of dawn
Load even more of the crap-ton at Mom's
Go to Gma's, pick her up (not in truck) and remaining 15%
                          Drive to Amarillo
                          Arrive Ama 4:20pm
Drive to Gma's new place and unload her stuff
Situate Gma and her furniture at new place
Drive to Mom's new townhouse (a.k.a location x)
                          Unload said crap-ton
                          Eat dinner 8pm
                          Go home.

Loading the underpowered and governed to 75mph (lol) 4.8L LSx rental truck. Needs boost... a lot of it.

                          Done!

                          • 2 households in one 16' box truck? And in one trip?

Impressive. Give those ladies a hug for me, they live and travel light. God bless them.

                            • I wish! Gma is in assisted living so she has basically a bedroom of furniture. Kay has a crap-ton of stuff still at her apt and storage. This trip was mainly to get Gma in and settled and to move the bigger and heavier stuff Kay has. I'm just glad they didn't rent a 24' truck of I might have just walked away. lol
