Heads just arrived. Holy cow. These are really nice. The cnc'd ports are l-a-r-g-e and the chamber are polished. These have springs that are good to 0.850 lift with titanium retainers. Wow.

Russell I have a set that came off an earlier version of my BBF that I have kept as emergency spares as they claim they can be reused, but so far I have put new ones the two most recent builds. The used ones look good but I am superstitious about re-using them unless I'm in a pinch somewhere. I have reused their intake manifold gaskets during an unplanned situation (broken rocker arm that led to a very bent pushrod) and they sealed up fine.Drag Week 2006 & 2012 - Winner Street Race Big Block Naturally Aspirated - R/U 2007 Broke DW '05 and Drag Weekend '15 Coincidence?

The last of the gaskets arrived yesterday as did a new set of plain polished aluminum valve covers. I decided to replace the Ford Motorsport vc's that I notched for brake booster clearance because the notch always weeped a little oil and because the new ones were pretty cheap.
Mark O'Neal messaged me and said Lem Evans has convinced him to include an intake valve relief for both standard valve layout heads and the Kaase/SCJ heads in his BBF pistons. He wanted to know what I thought about it and what heads I just got. I told him I thought it was a great idea that especially appealed to those of us who are the typical "incremental upgrade consumers" who would rather not have to redo the short block in order to change to a Kaase/SCJ head.
Besides pistons and rings (both purchased, but waiting on delivery) I just need a set of roller lifters. Then I will have all the parts I need to finish this thing up!!!!Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

IDK. Probably not much. 1 cubic centimeter is only ~2.7 grams of aluminum.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

I built a 504" way back with a dual intake valve pocket for a potential upgrade path as well. The double cut adds more points for detonation to start and adds another thin point at the edge of the valve pocket on the piston crown. If piston maker doesn't do it, plan to smooth the sharp edges with emery cloth or a grit imgregnated brush on a drill to eliminate the sharp edges and blend the edge of the pocket. I ended up going with A460's later so my upgrade path failed. I don't see a huge benefit to the P51's over TFS you now have.Drag Week 2006 & 2012 - Winner Street Race Big Block Naturally Aspirated - R/U 2007 Broke DW '05 and Drag Weekend '15 Coincidence?

These are a dished piston. Mark told me this AM that he didn't think the second relief was a big deal on the dished pistons, but was not a real big fan of them on the flat tops. I had planned to soften the edges on the reliefs to provide additional detonation resistance.
I just really want them to be here!

Piston rings..... gak. I was running Mahle drop-in rings in the last engine so I decided to order them again.....
Order #1 - back ordered forever, then said they could not get them.
Order #2 - Jegs, same rings, listing said nothing about drop ship. Backordered...... then they emailed and said they were discontinued... order cancelled.
Order #3 - Jegs again.... KB rings this time. Back ordered..... until 3/16/15... then they will probably be back ordered again, lol.
I called, cancelled Order #3 and asked for a price match on a set of file fit Speed Pro's.... placed Order #4 this morning and saved $15.
I can't believe it's so hard to order a dang set of rings! I didn't really want file fit because I HATE doing that, but I have done it before and will survive I suppose.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.
