• Only if they check... Probably won't be something I use all the time. But would be nice to have if we start doing more 1/8th mile list racing here.

        • We went to the annual Ford v. Buick shootout at Thunder Valley, Ok this weekend. Car ran like a refrigerator. Plug it in and it just works. I didn't turn a wrench on it all day. I did play with timing a little but didn't get datalogs on 2 of the runs because I didn't have any more room to datalog on my phone. Deleted some old logs and I was back in business. I bumped the rear tire pressure from my normal 12psi up 14psi and it was super stable and the 60' was pretty good.

Ford won again, but it was not a landslide. Buick was ahead until we got into the 10 sec and faster cars, but it was a good time as always.

Car is fast and sooooooo much fun to drive. It ran quicker every pass it made except for one. I let it idle too long in the staging lanes and heated up the fuel. It hiccuped pretty hard at the hit. In the finals, I got paired up with a decently fast Buick, but he didn't have enough for the Mustang. He did tree the heck out of me though!

              • I was looking at the only datalog from Noble I got (because I was out of logging space...oops) and the ignition timing seemed a bit erratic at WOT. What the heck? It was retarding up to 6-7 degrees but was not steady. A quick check of the MAP reading showed it was higher than I normally see (Duh, because the air in Noble is way way better than Amarillo). So at WOT, the spark advance was dancing over the line between an area of the spark table I have edited and an area that I have not. lol

I did not notice this while at the track so I think it probably still has a little more in it considering half the time it was not at the proper timing. It certainly has the mph to run a 10.00, just need to trim that 60' time down a bit more. Foot braking is just not hitting it hard and quick enough out of the hole. I think it could go 10.00 or 9.99 if I put a transbrake in it, but they are not cheap!

Car ran very good for the first time running the 3.90's and new ignition. 10.65 is the best it has ever run in Amarillo. The 1.51 60' was probably the best ever in Amarillo too. Ignition worked flawless. I am very very happy with it. We only got 2 passes in before we decided we were about to get soaked, but I datalogged both runs so I have some good info to play with. The second run was a 10.66 with a 1.53 60, but it was a semi-hot lap and it had a lean hiccup right at the hit that even shows up in the log. I bumped the timing up 2 degrees while waiting in the staging lanes before that run. I think the hiccup was the result of heat soak from not having an adequate cool down time between passes. I don't know what the DA was but I suspect it was not very good considering the approaching storm. This cowl hood seems to trap more heat in than the old setup did. It also seems to reflect more engine noise back to the passenger area.

The evening was not issues. Forgot my breaker bar and Jonathan (JWS4621) gassed it back to his house and brought a bar and his cordless impact. This delayed us for a while. Driver's side slick got into the back edge of the fender and ground a small groove in it. This was a result of me extending the lower arms a little to much when I had the diff out last time. I will shorten them up a little (and even them up... one was 0.25" longer than the other... oops.) and hopefully this will not be an issue ever again.

Overall a good night though. Just as I pulled it into the garage, the clouds opened up and the rains came!

I'm not sure that a trans brake with get you all of the .26 you need for a 9.99. You will have to make some fairly significant changes to the suspension settings primarily due to the different way the car will react with it sitting unloaded at the starting line vs. the brake torque it sees with a footbrake launch. I learned this with the PG/GV transbrake setup at Drag Week this year with my '87 Fox body. I'm chasing that as I broke the trans before getting enough laps on it to dial the launch tune and settings.

Isolating the carb inlet from engine compartment heat will help a bit. Another thought, you have a very efficient combustion chamber in your new heads. Mine actually picks a bit of MPH and a smidgen of ET with more timing advance at the top of the WOT RPM range, +four degrees in two steps. It's counter to traditional thinking, but the time slips are what counts especially now that you have good logs and an complete timing map.

                          • Yes, it probably will not pick up the whole amount with just a t-brake, but it really makes me smile that I am inching ever closer to it n/a!

Timing: That is the trend I was actually following. When it was 'bobbing over the edge" into a row of cells I had not edited, it was bouncing between desired timing and 6-7 degrees retarded.
