Heck, I don't know. I might measure the pads and see just how much they are worn. They really do not look bad to me as they are. Maybe I should do a little research while it's open!

The transformation begins! Saturday we fired it up did a few open header burnouts, drained the coolant and backed it back into the shop. After a few hours we had the engine/trans ready to pull out. I pretty much just told the boys to "do this, and do that" and they did the work. So fun seeing them work together on something.
While they were wrangling the steering shaft, driveshaft and transmission crossmember, out of the car, I worked on the T5. I literally had to drive the shifter shaft out of the cover because of the rust accumulation. Once I had it out, I dressed it with a file and now everything slides together like it should. I did find a broken part. Not sure what to call it just yet. It's a "C" shaped piece of steel that has one part busted off.
Edit: "Interlock plate" is what it is called.
Terrible pics, but oh well.

This is the little guy that is broken. I have had ZERO luck finding a part number or one for sale on the internet. Boo.

No worries! One will turn up. At least I have a part number now! Thanks!
Edit: Having the part number was the silver bullet. (pun intended) Found one and it is ordered. Win!Last edited by BBR; December 19, 2017, 10:01 AM.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

Guess what found its way into Chief Pontiac's land... Was a turbo 4. Will be stuffed with 302 parts I have laying around. I'd shove a 460 in it, but being a ragtop that would mean a cage. Your build gives me lots of ideas for this thing, and I have most of the stuff needed sitting around. I too like the 4 eye better than the 87 up.
