That Florida 5.0 stuff is pretty cool. To be honest, I really have not thought about gauges much. I had planned to just use the stock stuff with a couple of after market gauges (water temp & oil pressure) to be safe. I have no idea where I am going to mount them though......
Does your '83 have the goofy "information center" panel? That's where my guages are going. ( I thought that information center stuff was goofy back in the '80's, the engineers should have been embarassed to include that display, IMO)
Yes it does, but it is all disconnected. I thought about putting them there, but I'd have to take my console out and that would be a huge job.
Thinking about making something that either hangs below the dash pad lip or sits on top of the dash pad over in the left corner by the a-pillar.
Checking hood clearance with the air cleaner on. That is a 3" filter with a drop base and the lid just touches the bottom of the factory scoop. Might try to find a 2.5" tall filter just to be safe.
James - I have an A pillar gage pod I can part with cheaply. Autometer, IIRC. No gages, just the pod. I bought two, three gage pods and was going to splice them to make a 4 gage pod but never did. It's at home so I can't send it for 3 weeks or so. Give a shout.
Stabbed the dist and found out the hood is going to hit it. Luckily it hits under the scoop so that's no real big deal.
Mocked up the radiator and worked on running trans cooler lines. I *should* have attached them BEFORE I put the engine/trans headers in as they were a really huge pain in the butt to get to with the headers in there. Figured out a mount for the trans cooler up front and got trans fluid everywhere. Man, I hate that stuff.
Mocked up the fuel lines/reg/etc to make sure everything is going to fit. So far so good.
Plopped a battery in it, but have not hooked it up. Since the car sat for 10 years, I'm about half scared it's gonna catch fire when I hook the battery up. lol
:-[ I did the same thing with my trans cooler lines. Pain in the butt but its done now.
I'd like to see how you did your cooler mounting. I haven't gotten to that part yet, curious to see what you came up with.
Battery was the first thing I did to mine. Well second, first was to isolate all the loose wires from shorting, then connected the battery and checked to see what worked. I swear if more than 3 lights were wonky I'd have junked it and searched for another body.... got lucky, everything worked. Did I mention I shoved it outside before I hooked the battery up? It can burn merrily out there, don't want any shop fires!
Of all the paths you take in life - make sure a few of them are dirt.
I could, but I have this freaking super duper HHR fan. It will fit, it's just cozy (like Ranger cozy) up there.... and I'm using the early style short water pump!
