The bungs are just vertical bosses cast into the intake. I have drilled intakes for weld-in bungs several times. That's no big deal because you then position the bungs and weld/epoxy them in place. This intake needs to be a little more precise since I will be drilling the actual injector mounting hole/surface.
Since the holes will be on the outboard edge of the intake, I have to come up with a way to stabilize/secure the intake so it does not try to dip or lean when applying drill pressure. These holes will only be sealing intake vacuum/pressure so they are not as critical as ones sealing 50 psi of fuel pressure. Nevertheless,I would like them to be done well.
Yea! Fuel rails! These are made for this intake so they should fit correctly. Honestly, I was on the fence about doing this efi conversion until I realized this fuel rail kit was becoming out of stock everywhere. I was afraid it was going to be discontinued and I wouldn't be able to get a kit that fits and is very inexpensive. So, I grabbed one and here we are.
I successfully drilled the injector bungs today. I bolted the intake to a piece of plywood and then clamped some angle iron to the bench top in order to let the plywood slide back and forth. Worked pretty good. I drilled them in four steps. The final step being the 17/32 quick hit just to size the hole. I used a step bit to chamfer the top of the hole to help the injector slip in place. They are not Bridgeport perfect, but I believe they will do the job just fine.
Also I think I'm going to use my pro flow throttle body because it has an IAC and the TPS I already on it. The other throttle body uses LS stuff and I don't have any of that right now.
Plopped it on the engine to get a better idea of fuel line routing. Looks like I need to get 4 fittings and a small section of hose and I'll be set. The 2" carb spacer is just for mock up. I was messing with kickdown cable to fuel rail clearance.
Fuel pump is in, valve covers on, plug wires on, fuel fittings tight, and I have a leak. 2 actually. The rails have holes in the middle on the bottom and I installed the supplied plugs, but they leak. I managed to get them out without removing the rails and will replace them with brass plugs.
Brass plugs in, reg spring swapped, fuel system pressure tested to 50 psi with no leaks. Just need to add water and connect 3 wires to the Megasquirt. Then it will be time to upload a base tune and turn the key!
