Hot start has been a problem after the injector swap. I finally figured out what I did. I had cranking rpm too low. I was thinking the cranking rpm was the rpm the MS has to see in order to fire the injectors. I was wrong. It is the rpm where the MS switches from the priming table to the VE table. Raised it back to 300 and bumped up the priming time a little and we have reliable hot restart!

Compounding the hard hot restart problem was the fact it would barely turn over when the motor was warm. I checked A LOT of things, and finally swapped the solenoid to starter canle and poked a new starter in it. I don't know which one fixed it, bit it spins over FAST now. Probably was the starter because I think it was the original one from 1983.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

mine was doing the slow spin.. bushings and brushes cured it.

I may have broken it.
Down on power, low oil pressure, a bit of water in the oil. Thinking maybe it is a byproduct of hydrolocking it on fuel a few times. May have killed a head gasket or 2. A rod may be hurt because I'm getting an occasional squeak from the bottom end.
Oof. Will dive into it more tomorrow.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

Looked at the oil again this morning and it looks less like water and more like it does when a cam goes flat. Less white and more gray. A though Jonathan had was the squeak could be the turbo. It does not seem to want to spin as easily as it once did.
When I was changing the starter the other day, the jack slipped off the k member and the oil pan smashed into the oil pan. It left a dent but I didn't think much of it really. I wonder if the pan whacked the oil pump and cracked it?Last edited by BBR; September 29, 2021, 07:28 AM.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

Looked at it at lunch. Turbo seems fine. Def a knock in the motor. Oil pressure was good when I first cranked it up, but something down in there is not happy.
A buddy has a 40 over short block that he thinks has a Comp 268 cam that we just might jam in it. He wants $200 for it. It has cast pistons, but I figure we will be fine at 8 psi. I have a good handle on the tune. We are currently very conservative with the timing.
I still feel like we probably bent a rod with the fuel fiasco and it ate up a bearing or something.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

It is quite audible!
2 hours in the shop and it's almost ready to come out. 4 bellhousing bolts and the converter bolts are all that is left. Oil is nasty looking with lots of sparkles.

Unfortunately it was nothing real exciting. haha. Just took it around the neighborhood to log some data and then out to the access road. Made a short pull and it seemed weak. Came around for another lap and it was definitely weak and started chirping on decel. Drove back to shop and parked it.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.
