Bought a 2012 version at NHRA HHRR at Bowling Green. Not overly-expensive but then you actually have to read the sucker!

I installed a toggle switch on on the ignition lead so I can spin the motor over and then turn on the 12v to the ignition. When I pulled the lower steering column cover off, the ignition switch decided to uninstall itself. It just sprang apart (has a spring inside) and parts went everywhere. Nice. Better now than in bfe oklaexassiannaessee though!
Did not get to test the toggle switch. Boo.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

gawd, no kidding. Put a starter button next to your toggle switch so you can hit it and flip the switch with one hand? Take the spare parts from exploded column switch too, the "replacements" are made out of really high class whatever animal excrement it is they found that morning.Flying south, with a flock of bird dogs.

Picked up a new switch and it is crimped much better than the old one. Put it in and it works fine now. The ignition kill/interrupt works great too. Have it off, spin the motor over, flip on and it lights right up. Win!Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

I know your starter thinks so.
I bought a 65.00 PMGR starter for the 460 from fleabay, it showed up today. Compared to the monster that came off of it? I'll weight it in a bit, but swear to it feeling like 20 punds difference.Last edited by Beagle; August 30, 2012, 04:41 PM.Flying south, with a flock of bird dogs.

Swapped the new balancer on without any issues. Got lucky that the puller would barely fit in there with the radiator still in. I also made some fan shroud extensions so the fan would pull sir from across the whole radiator. I switched my AN csrb fittings for some longer ones to make changing jets less of a hassle. Today I did some load planning with the drag week trailer and installed the Jerry can holder. Just need to give the bearings a looksie and it will be good to go.Life is short. sounds like you're about ready....
Are you gonna do the trans shield thing in case you get into the tens?My fabulous web page

if Ennis is only going to get into the 90* with a 67 low, you may be running in "cool" air... and it's only what, a couple thousand feet DA difference? It's 2500 ft. this morning v. 5900 there.
If you get booted for going to fast, how does that work? Sandbag one run so you can turn in a time?Last edited by Beagle; September 4, 2012, 12:36 AM.Flying south, with a flock of bird dogs.

You just can't turn in a time slip quicker than you are teched for. HR has it listed in their spreadsheet so they can check it when you turn one in.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

If you don't have certain "stuff" you are not allowed xxx mph and yyy ET?
Asking cuz I don't understand.... Always thought you are supposed to go as fast as possible....

NHRA safety rules for ET/speed still apply. Stuff like: having a full roll cage and a NHRA/IHRA competition license for passes 9.99 and quicker, a 6 point roll bar for et's 11.49 to 10.00, etc.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

You're supposed to go as fast as you can, but you are also supposed to have all the safety equipment for how fast you can go.
It's expensive as well as being a PITA. and you might survive if something bad happens. My fabulous web page

I don't understand why you can custom fab your own roll cage but you have to buy a scatter shield? Why can not you just make a 3/16 (or what ever thickness) cover / trans tunnel?Last edited by Russell; September 4, 2012, 03:46 PM.

Fan shroud extensions.....fail. Car ran hotter on the road with them so I took them off. I also connected the vacuum advance to see if it will advance the timing a little (mech advance is locked at 30 deg) while cruising to help cool it down a bit and maybe do a little better on fuel. I will certainly disconnect it at the track.
Checked the float levels just to be safe, they were fine.
Still want to put some fresh plugs and maybe some new vc gaskets in it. Will probably do that on Sunday.
Going to check the little trailer over tonight and maybe clean up/dry out the Mustang's interior a little. I really need to start getting organized or I'm totally going to forget some stuff.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

interesting, the extensions are probably blocking air flow. Maybe the fan shroud needs to just go forward towards the radiator, from it's edges? so the fan pulls air from the center part of the radiator, and the outer edges get air flow from the high pressure in front of the car when it's moving.
