Heads on, rockers and pushrods cleaned and set in place. I found one broken pedestal. Luckily I have a spare. Surprisingly, I have learned it is not uncommon for them to break.
First time to assemble an engine on a Black and Decker Workmate. Haha, works good!
First, the Box has a Higher Strength Rating than that Stand........
NOW, Let's talk about "My Missing B&D Workmate".........
YOU Wouldn't Know Where my 1 5/16's
1/2" socket is that went missing about the same time is, eh ??!!
As soon as I seen that engine on that "Work Mate", I went to my shop to see if Santa Claus came Early and gave me a New Engine.....LOL
Freaky that my Work Mate has the very same paint job !!
I got this one sometime around 1998. I have used it for everything! Holding transmissions, welding stuff, porting heads, painting stuff, grinding, sawing.

we are such a special breed, spend thousands on motors, lift, hold and transport it with things that were free. Kermit Weeks got annoyed at me pointing out that he was moving a priceless airplane (a Sopwith Camel built by Peter Jackson) with a old forklift (worth hundreds) that didn't have brakes.
I actually own several engine stands and I'm not afraid to use them. One even has a geared head which I bought for those L O N G inline Chevy sixes that I used to mess with.

Our’s is a 4 wheel drive.
turn key off to stop.
Or chuck a block under the wheel
I'm jealous of the WorkMate! I occasionally bug my father if he's still using his 80's vintage one and his response is basically "it's in your inheritance" because he uses it quite often still. Saw it sitting on top of the geologic filing system in his garage over this last weekend while I was home for the first time since 2019.
Off the Workmate and back on the hook! This past weekend was completely filled with family stuff so I am sort of in a time crunch. Today I installed the passenger side header and turbo, new rear main seal, oil pump, pickup, oil pan, dipstick, front cover, block spacer, flexplate, turbo return line, balancer and alternator. It is finally ready to drop back into the car.
And it's in! It really went back in pretty easy. No major hang-ups at all. The only problem I know of is the old filter relocator has a crack in it. So I will need to get another one or just get a short filter like I have been running.
One surprising thing that happened was that the down pipe darn near fell into place. That never happens.
Its like a Trans just sliding in, FIRST try, No Fighting, Almost Pinching your Fingers.....
And it went in SO easily........
you start thinking......alright, did I put the pilot bearing in, the clutch disc facing out, throw out bearing fall off clutch arm.......
