Here's the part you don't find out about until you get the parts in hand. You have to chop the ends off your tubes for the c-clip eliminators to work correctly. Hardest part was getting the old wheel bearings out.
Tubes are welded and new upper bushings are installed.
No, I did not shorten the axles. For the Strange C-clip eliminator kits, you have to trim off most of the tube (3/16" max left) that is past the backing plate mounting flange. It was a quick job with the sawzall. lol
The tubes are just plug welded into the housing from the factory. I have read that they can rotate and screw stuff up, so I went ahead and welded them to be safe. I welded 1" beads rotating the housing 90* and alternating from one tube to the other to keep the heat/distortion to a minimum.
Next up is plopping the new gears in it and getting it all set up. ;D
I hope you have access to a nice press with some tooling - Dave's shop has a sweet electric over hydraulic press set up - no bottle jack pumping required!
We had to change shims 4 times to get my set up right - and it's still not 100% perfect - but should be just fine.
