I like the tire in the air pic. Alas, I have never owned a car that did that and probably never will. Still, I have fun.

BIG congrats from North Carolina. Give a shout when in the area and I'll pop for the world's best burger (ask Brian) and the soft drink of your choice.

What's so incredibly impressive about this isn't so much the ETs and trap speeds (although they are remarkable too); it's the dependabilty of a package that has an almost-mountain motor stuffed into a virtual enclosed go-cart. Car Craft should be banging on your door for a feature spread.

Haha thanks. My favorite thing about this car is it's simplcity. Smaller car, bolt-together big engine, one wire ignition, one wire alternator. There's nothing trick or heavily modified so it's a combo that dang near anyone could duplicate if they wanted to. Can't wait to fiddle some more with it.

Stripped carburetor bowl threads are fixed.

Carb is rejetted back to what I normally run. Just need to change to oil and check the bronze gear and timing before I run it again.

if it's one of those blue-bay Chiang Wao dizzy's , did you change the gear? The one I picked up says it's mellonized and compatible with iron or steel. I've forgotten... but if it's a chinese importo with the wang chung gear, I'm curious how it's holding up. Sorry, been up about 22 hours and getting a little loopy.

I still have to address that issue on the 302. I still have the duraspark, but also got a ready to run MSD billet that has the cast gear, I got a couple bronze gears off ebay cheap I wanted to try..... will be interested to see a pic of James BBF bronze dist gears after surviving drag week.

Beagle, I ran the other gear for a while and it always looked ok, but I chickened out and bought a bronze one. Easier to replace a trashed dist gear in a McDonalds parking lot than a camshaft! The install of it is a few pages back on page 79. I took the other gear with me on DW just in case this one croaked though.

Might have time at lunch today to yank it out.

hmmm... I guess I have to take exception to that statement - you did a lot of work, engineering, and spent a good bit of money for the "simple" car.

James, seriously, it's not easy, cheap, or something Bubba could accomplish - you did a great job on that car. You are rightly proud of it and what it's done.

...also, were it easy, this thread would be done in 100 posts, not 1500 and counting.

Thanks for the compliment guys! I really appreciate it!

Here's the gear. It was installed just before Drag Week 2011 and has not been out since. It probably has 2000+ miles on it. Oh yeah, Chinese distributor, chinese gear.

It does show some wear, but it is well within what I would consider acceptable. The 80+ psi oil pressure when the engine is cold probably does not help things. haha

The distributor *seriously* needs a new cap and rotor. The button in the top of the cap is about gone.

Doc's car ate one of those buttons in his MSD cap. Found it at the Firework store stop.
                        Escaped on a technicality.

James - I need another picture showing how that piece goes onto the rest of the distributor shaft.... I'm only familiar with one piece dizzy shafts.
