Lol Not drag week rules related. I attended a race yesterday (Ford v Buick) I love to go to every year and it reminded me just how easy, inexpensive and fun this big stupid motor has been the last few years. Really thinking hard about just fixing it and looking more at the hemi thing when I have space. Might put a hyd roller cam back in it this time though just for giggles...... Maybe. #windshieldwiper

so... I couldn't really tell... does HRM consider the new hemi a Mopar Hemi?
"•In Big-Block classes, engine displacement must be 431 ci and above. All Mopar Hemis, big-block Mopars, big-block Chevys, big-block Fords, and FE Fords will run in Big-Block classes regardless of displacement."Flying south, with a flock of bird dogs.

No. They are a sb. That rule has been in place for a long time.
What is funny is they forced Casey Cunningham's D100 with a nitrous Mopar 400 (big block) into SR SB/PA in 2012 and they were gonna do the same this year, so he went to Unlimited. They are not even following their own rules.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

say it ain't so!
"At the race director's discretion"
I'm all too familiar with "but I could do this", it keeps me from finishing things... and really, the truck does not need a 545. (sure it does!!) Unless you're ready to get a license, I think you still have an attainable goal of 10.0 at altitude, so there's stuff left to do with the BBF. A new program would be fun though. Good luck with that decision. I'll be of no help whatsoever.
I'm not sure how much I would sweat the really short runners with a well sorted turbo - it's still gonna be a 400+ inch mill in a pretty small car. The "soft" hit may be good for not blowing off the tires? I thought you were wanting something you could send Julie to the store for groceries in? HAHAHAHAHA... j/k.Last edited by Beagle; October 13, 2014, 05:34 PM.Flying south, with a flock of bird dogs.

Haha Julie drive the Mustang? Not a chance in hell. While "hate" may be too strong of a word, "intensely dislike" probably fits.
Actually, she would probably like it better if it (and the pickup) did not occupy space in the driveway.
Talked to Lenny at Ultimate Converter the other day. I really think the same engine combo (w/ original Herbert cam) with a better converter will pick up a little. The current converter is a shelf ACC that I bought used. Supposed to stall at 4000, goes 4800+ in this car and is not very efficient down track. It also does not have anti-balloon plates, so I may just be lucky that it did not expand and wipe out the thrust bearing. A good converter is not cheap, but a cheap converter is not good when you get to this performance level.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

There is a ton left in the current combination. You could start over with the bizarro world G3 Hemi/turbo/4L80 which will be far more complicated, expensive and take longer than it may sound; or stay with what you know and what is already scienced out and proven. There are different kinds of challenges, you'll make the best choice for you.Drag Week 2006 & 2012 - Winner Street Race Big Block Naturally Aspirated - R/U 2007 Broke DW '05 and Drag Weekend '15 Coincidence?

Going to pick up a machined 460 block this evening. It was bored 60 over (4.42" bore) by a reputable shop here in town. It popped up on craigslist for $100 with a timing cover and a set of rods. Guy had it done, then lost interest in the project. Figured if nothing else, I could use it to build an engine for the pickup. But, seeing that 2 replacement pistons for the 545 cost over half what a new set of 8 cost, I might just buy the new set and build a 552 to replace the 545. I'm working on a possible cylinder head change to a set of ported Cobra Jet A-429's too. A-429's are similar to the TFS heads I have now in that they use the same studs, springs, valves, rockers, guide plates, etc. However they have CJ/SCJ sized intake ports and are preferred by many for 500+ inch engines.
Standard port vs. CJ/SCJ
It's crazy how all these options and changes just started popping up. lol Now to see if they all pan out!Last edited by BBR; October 17, 2014, 02:24 PM.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

It opened when I clicked the link. I didn't realize that the skirt was so short on a BBF. I guess they gave up on the Y-block concept. Sounds like a plan is coming together. Or I could fix you up with a 250" inline six and and a bunch of neato speed parts for cheap. A Chevy inline six in a 'Stang would be unique.

Dan, 385 series big blocks are not a deep skirt block, but it's no biggie. They work just fine. This one is a D9 block, just like my current block. They have slightly longer cylinder bores that provide additional stability for the piston when using long stroke cranks. Good stuff.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.
