First heat cycle complete. Filled it with water, and after a couple of distributor tweaks, it barked to life!
I'll do it again and also set the timing properly. Then we can re-torque the heads and bolt up all the turbo goodies.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

Second heat cycle done. Timing set. Everything seems ok. Pulled valve covers and headers while Judd worked on the Durango. Then retorqued the heads. Remflex gaskets should be here today so I can start buttoning it back up. I am about 98% sure I will have to redo my down pipe yet again. Haha.Last edited by BBR; December 14, 2020, 07:38 AM.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

Yeah. Normally a down pipe goes back and drops just before the firewall and with the engine 1" back, that was not possible. So I had to drop between the 3 & 4 cyls and wiggle past the kmember. With the engine back in the stock location, because of the shape of the kmember, the gap I was going thru got a lot narrower. So I will just rebuild it to go all the way to the rear and drop down. It will be much simpler, I think and hope.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

I'm not a fan of front exhaust on street cars at all. I mean guys do all this work building a "street" car then get lazy and just run the exhaust through the hood. I don't mind it on racecars as they don't claim to be anything else.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

Choose your battles. Or, fix what you can fix. The Durango is wounded and we needed another car for Judd to drive, so I put the Mustang mostly back together last night and drove it home. Everything went great. I am just running it na right now to get the carb sorted out and running clean so I did not connect the turbo piping. It is stupid rich under accel right not a perfect on cruise. I think part of my issue with this carb is the fact I have the vacuum ports looped. Didn't think much of it but last night after I got home it dawned on me that by looping them, I just created a vacuum leak. lol Manifold vacuum port (below throttle plates) connected to ported vacuum port (above throttle plates).
Down pipe fit with a little massaging from a big hammer.

Monkeyed with the carb a little last night and I think I am moving in the right direction. Drove it to get gas and it is still rich, but it is much more responsive.

I've been playing with this carburetor quite a bit to improve it's drivability I did a lot of searching and reading over it racingfuelsystems.org. I discovered that I was quite a ways off on how this carburetor needed to be set up as far as air bleeds go. I also determined that my cruise timing was set considerably lower than it really should be. I have made significant improvements in the part-throttle acceleration richness and in the lean stumble it had on light acceleration from a cruise.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

The 83GT gets a little ink in our neighborhood magazine, "Life in the Colonies". They contacted me a while back and had me answer some questions and submit some photos. Turned out pretty neat. Haha.Last edited by BBR; March 23, 2021, 08:32 PM.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.
