  • John, I've had it out there once before, just on slippery street tires and a clogged up fuel filter. This will be the first time on the skinnies and drag radials. I had the plugs out when I put the girdles on and the they really look great. I do have jets, so I might fiddle with them a bit. Mostly just want to get out there, make some good runs on the good tires and get it home in one chunk. haha

    • Is there any tech inspector at this track that knows the NHRA rules? Might be a good first try to make sure you've got everything in spec for drag week.

Have a blast, and don't break anything!

      • Yes they have good tech people.

I think the only thing that stands a chance of keeping me slower than 11.50 is the bolt-in harness bar on my roll bar. I have a few names of guys that can help me change that before DW gets here.

        • ya know, you have that trailer and even the term that goes with it "PowerTow"
If I ever get to the track, I'm hauling the car on a trailer it just makes more sense than having to call AAA while at the track. Of course, that said, I've broke but fine at autocross and had to call AAA.

          • I love it when we go to the races, unload the car. Run it, put it up on jackstands and check the tire pressures, then drop it down and run it again. Nothing like staying in the shade, sipping some water or Arnold Palmer, and watching everyone else thrash. Of Course I have the unfortunate personality trait of wandering over and helping out... so I guess I like the thrash.

            • It's a lot easier on the nerves to help somebody else on their thrash. I think most of us get a little boost out of helping someone else, even if it helps them beat us.

                • Thought it was going to be rained out, but the rain did it's usual 'divide and go around' Amarillo. haha

The night had it's ups and downs.

Down: Threat of rain made me delay going out there. Didn't finally leave until 8:45.

Up: Got the Mustang successfully loaded on the trailer.

Down: gotta jack the tongue waaaay up so the mufflers do not hang on the edge of the trailer.

Up: The Durango seems to be quite happy pulling the Mustang around. Trailer pulls REALLY nice.

Down: Seems to be a lot of valvetrain noise once I got the car off the trailer. Pulled pass vc. Lash had opened up a tiny bit. but nothing crazy.

Up: Teched in, got a tech sticker from the track to put on the car. Whoo hoo!

                  Down: FORGOT MY HELMET!!!

Up: Staging lanes were pretty much empty.

Down: Got all crossed up doing my burnout and tach stopped working.

Up: Car launched, spun, pulled second and it literally squashed my eyeballs back in their sockets.

Down: Pop pop! lean on the top of 2nd, pedal it, pull third..... where's third? Won't go into 3rd.

                  Up: *F*i*n*a*l*l*y* went into third.

Down: tossed and lossed the water pump belt!

Up: Absolutely destroyed the late model Mustang in the other lane even with all the in-car drama.

Down: Dash light are pretty much no existent (gotta fix that!)

Up: Got the car loaded up much easier this time (tach started working again too), now that I know that it needs to go waaaaay up.

Up: Got it home in one piece.

Up: Discovered my trailer in fact has Ford pattern wheels on it. I was checking the tire pressure and noticed the wheels were stamped with a tiny Ford oval and script lettering!!

                  Wheew.

Thoughts: Needs more fuel! The 2nd gear pull is freaking awesome! Trans may be low on fluid. Got to find a belt! I LOVE HAVING A TRAILER!!!

                      • if ya didn't drive over anything coming out of the block, I'd call it a good night! I notice you're still being secretive about the time slips. lol.

How many a-holes gave you the "Dodge pulling a Ford" comment? My new neighbor, that was the first thing he ever said to me. I had a friends Chevy and my Lightning on the trailer, he comes up with the oh so brilliant "Chevy pulling a Ford" comment as an opener. We don't talk much. lol.

You don't have to spill the beans about the times. Double secret stealth huh? Nobody finds out til Drag Week?

                        • Haha no secrets here. Just made one pass and it wasn't worth a crap. 12.97 @109. *If* I can get it to run like it did in 2rd all the way down the track, it's gonna be a fast mutha.

I'll be easy to find at DW. Just listen for the car with the noisy valvetrain. lol
