As far as you've taken that car it must be difficult to roll it back to something your kids can start with. I feel your pain. It is cool that your boys are interested though. With my 2 (18 & 19) one likes to ride in the cars the other is not really interested at all.
No, but I don't intend for it to be easy. Otherwise, I'd just toss them the keys as it sits. My evil genius goal here is to set the hook of hot rodding. Improving, upgrading, etc. Start with something that is an ok performer then improve upon it. Maybe with better heads, different intake, forced induction or whatever. This will just be their beginning point, so I want to run good, but certainly leave room to improve. However, it's tough to keep from clicking "Buy It Now" on a hyd roller cam and some shiny aluminum heads. Haha
Cam (Summit 3601), lifters, valve springs (TFS 16514) and some chinese stainless shorty headers are on their way. That should pretty much wrap up all the motor stuff with the exception of a carburetor.
The heads have some new valve springs on them but nobody seems to know what they really are! So I felt the $60 spent was worth the peace of mind.
Total expenditure for this engine so far is just under $700.
Musical engine compartment to commence soon..
Might as well plop the 552 in the pickup while the boys put the 302 together so the Mustang is ready to recieve it's new motor
It's going to wait a little bit! I have one more race in October I want to do with the Mustang! Buick v. Ford in Noble Oklahoma. Can't miss it because it's always a great time!
Motor build day! Jake got out there and finished cleaning stuff yesterday Then he started putting it all together. I helped and instructed. Short block looks good. Pistons are 0 deck which makes me happy. Everything went together smoothly except for the timing set. Apparently, I got one for an EFI engine. It has a raised section in the center that will not allow you to install a fuel pump eccentric. Not a big deal seeing that this car is set up for an electric pump, but I kinda wanted to have that option. Oh well.
He is dying to paint it. I just hope he does not choose a stupid color. Haha.
A GREAT experience for a kid, especially a modern one. Good lookin' lad - fortunate that he favors his mother ( I heard that a LOT when my girls were little).
