More progress this weekend. Valve springs changed, heads, rockers, etc. installed and they painted it black. Not my first choice for engine color (I like Ford gray) but whatever.
We had to drill out 3 of the head bolt holes in the head to fit the 1/2" studs. Head went on pretty snug. Might be a bit hard to get off if I ever have to pull a head, but we'll cross that bridge should we ever come to it.
Judd changing valve springs. Jake did the other head.
Engine painted. They wanted to mock up headers and intake.
Heads on and valve train assembled. Judd put the headers on after this pic was taken. We would have installed the intake, but I was out of RTV.
Looks great so far! I like the idea of letting them build it up over time as they get used to it, and teach them how to save and budget money. My vote for the first upgrade is a high rise dual plain manifold. If the heads can flow enough it should wake it up. My P motor loved the Stealth when I put it on. The edelbrock preformer on the P was done by 4000-4500 rpms.
Went to the track Friday night. Drove through a small shower on the way out. Jonathan and I got our cars all prepped, went and bought tech cards, then it dumped on us. We jumped in a buddy's Expedition and waited it out. It rained hard for a little bit. Enough that there was no way they could dry the track without the help of the sun. So we packed it all up and went home. Boo.
Judd and I worked on the 302 a little more. It is very close to being finished.
It's been a real scavenger hunt in my garage to find all the 302 stuff I ditched when I put the big block in!
Dan Stokes turned me on to some roller rockers a friend of his was selling. These are the same Crane Energizer rockers that Ford installed on the 302 based Cobra engines from 1993-?. They even have a Ford F3 part number cast into them. They are non-adjustable pedestal mount rockers, but they are 1.7 ratio vs. the stock 1.6. That bumps our cam lift up to an even 0.500".
Glad you got 'em. Nice when a deal works out. Dick is a great guy and he's SO pleased that someone will get use out of them. The BluePrint already came with them.
