As far as you've taken that car it must be difficult to roll it back to something your kids can start with. I feel your pain. It is cool that your boys are interested though. With my 2 (18 & 19) one likes to ride in the cars the other is not really interested at all.

Cam (Summit 3601), lifters, valve springs (TFS 16514) and some chinese stainless shorty headers are on their way. That should pretty much wrap up all the motor stuff with the exception of a carburetor.
The heads have some new valve springs on them but nobody seems to know what they really are! So I felt the $60 spent was worth the peace of mind.
Total expenditure for this engine so far is just under $700.

Having a Summit Racing in Texas really speeds up the delivery time. Cam, lifters and springs are here!

Motor build day! Jake got out there and finished cleaning stuff yesterday Then he started putting it all together. I helped and instructed. Short block looks good. Pistons are 0 deck which makes me happy. Everything went together smoothly except for the timing set. Apparently, I got one for an EFI engine. It has a raised section in the center that will not allow you to install a fuel pump eccentric. Not a big deal seeing that this car is set up for an electric pump, but I kinda wanted to have that option. Oh well.
He is dying to paint it. I just hope he does not choose a stupid color. Haha.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

Thanks Dan, it's fun to work with him and teach him. He's a good kid (his brother too!). Definitely makes a Dad proud.
Up next is changing the valve springs on the heads and getting them all ready to bolt on.
Interesting SBF factoid: The fuel pump eccentric is the perfect size to remove and install a front cover seal.

Cheapo stainless shorty headers showed up today. They actually look pretty decent.

Yeah, they look like they are modeled after a BBK. They were cheap, but have really nice welds and 3/8" flanges.. Maybe they will work ok.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.
