Okay, thanks...now I'm spooked about putting the rear glass in the Cyclone. But going to assure myself this is a Poncho issue. -
I know you are a total DIY'er and I hate to say it, but have you thought about having a pro put the glass in? That way if they screw it up, the fix it free.Leave a comment:

did you use butyl tape or sealant (from a tube) to put the window in?Leave a comment:

wow, I wonder what happened?
This one uses the butyl tape to seal the windshield, doesn't it? should be some rubber blocks to keep the glass from moving down too far, and the tape fits between the glass and metal frame. As long as the frame is close to the right shape, the glass should float and not touch anything.
At least the rear glass is tempered (if it's original), they're a lot tougher.Leave a comment:

Stupid fargin rusty old cars. Here is the damage, didnt take much of a bump to do this either. Must have been stressed from the channel not being quite right. I am terrified to try to put the trim on the rear glass. Instead I put the weather strip around the bottoms of the doors, and yanked the exhaust manifolds from the LeMans. Maybe if I feel like it I will go pull the shifter linkage and the other stuff from the LeMans.
I are not a happy camper.

$200 down the drain, at least if I had wiped my ass with two C notes I would have gotten some benefit from it.
Just think of the fun of going back to the guy you bought it from and show him his old car.Leave a comment:

I wonder that too, but the guy I got it from bought it in the same condition but with a few small parts he needed. Judging by the previous repairs and how much rust was everywhere, it probably hasnt run since the early 80s. I cant wait to see this thing going down the road under its own power with all its parts attached, that will mean all those parts are no longer in my shop taking up space.
Headed in to town to get the windshield in the next few minutes. Should have the glass installed by tonight and hopefully some of the other stuff it needs finished. When I got it I wondered how I would ever be able to put glass in it again because of the rust.Leave a comment:

it always seems the prep days take too long, and the days of accomplishment are over in a moment.... my wife told me that now that I was done with the Corvette (because it's painted), I can get back on the Spider..... lol, I told her that the paint was the easy part, and the bit that took the least amount of time.... ah well, at least she's interested in seeing her car on the road - which might happen a lot sooner then later

That is the small hammer. I was using it with a center punch to mark the holes needed to screw the clips to the channel. The pins are gone after rebuilding the channel from scratch, and 65s had some of them screwed in anyway, which is where I got the idea.Originally posted by mlcraven View PostOne mofo big hammer on the package shelf! Were you adjusting some stubborn bits?
Tomorrow I need to pick up the windshield, install that and the back glass. Then finish the sanding on the grille surround and paint it. With luck that should all be done tomorrow evening about this time. Still need to pull the manifolds and shifter linkage from the LeMans, probably going to handle that while the paint dries on the grille parts.
I feel like I should have more done today.Leave a comment:

Have you ever worked for a few hours, found yourself feeling quite tired then looking to see what you have accomplished only to not be able to notice anything you have done? Sometimes it feels like that. Tomorrow though, we will have a full set of glass in the car.

Now, back to putting other parts that do not show at a first glance onto the car previously known as the rusty hulk that isnt even good for a parts car.Leave a comment:
