I wish STINEY! I've been squirreling away parts for it.
So far I scored a super nice AS-41 case that I need to fill it with 'high quality' parts.
I gotta get the trans out this winter & get it down to Brian for an overhaul.
I need to rewire the whole thing, (dad-in-law did a hack wiring job on it).
I still have many parts to gather up, BUT IT WILL BE READY FOR SPRING WOOOOO!!!!!!!! :D :o 8)
Found a bunch of bug parts in the back 40 at work. Got another core motor, a trans core & other misc junk.
I'm going to build a test stand to break the motor(s) in once they're built, that's where the trans core comes in.
I'll be using a similar set-up like the one Darryl's Garage built, see link:
Mr. STINEY is also looking for the little odds & ends crap I need to make this project a go, Thanks STINEY ;D
Yesterday I separated the core engine & trans.
VW motors & trannys weld together after sitting for years making it tough to get them apart.
Here's how I did it...
Using my old S-10 (as a tree) I chained the motor & trans between the trucks.
6-8 hard pulls later & they came apart.
They were so stuck together they pulled my old truck forward a foot & a half.

I checked for the fan shroud, have plenty of late model stuff, but none like you need. Same on the crank shims. Would love to set you up, but inventory is lacking on those items.
Of all the paths you take in life - make sure a few of them are dirt.
Today I cut off the air tubes & made patches for the fan shroud.
My friend Matt did the welding, & did a great job at that!
Now the shroud goes out for sandblasting.
Before example:
After, smooth look
Also: boxed up cylinder heads to send off to Mofoco on Monday for rebuild!
Buying engine kit in the next week too ;D

I ordered a 2 leg yoke from VW Alley on Saturday & it arrived today.
Not bad for shipping something from CA to the Midwest.
This is the best damn 2 leg yoke there is in my opinion.
I'm using a Mexican AS-41 case with very few miles on it...
I'm just that much closer to having a running motor, woooooo!!!!

Be sure to save the plug for the cam bearing gallery when you split the case. The mexican cases used a different one than the german cases.....
Looks like you had a couple of case savers back out as well. That's a pain in the rear. Hopefully locktite will hold them!
Don't worry, I'm saving everything! ;D The case is in great shape, .006 endplay, clean, tight, & no hammered mains.
A couple of case savers came out because of stuck cylinder studs. They thread back in tight, gonna locktite all of them.
Any luck on the 9 1/4" 8mm long cylinder stud STINEY? It's the only part holding up this build right now... :
Will be checking for them this weekend......apparently my necently organized parts stash suffered from a "coon-tastrophy" and now is partially chaos again. I loathe those little bandits. >
