  • The Kohler Super 7

This is a relatively new development for me... A car that can be eventually driven on the road ;D
The story behind this car is as follows: A local Vocational School teacher decided that building a
"Locost" Lotus 7 kit car would be a great project for his students. They built the jig then built
the chassis, sourced the parts and began to put the thing together. The school, however, was
not on board for the car being more than a 1-year project and decided to stop funding it. He
listed it for sale in a local car club classified, and Gretta and I checked it out yesterday. Long
story short, I made him a lowball offer and he accepted. Here are a few pictures...

The engine is an I-6 from a Datsun 260Z, the rear is an 8.8 from a Fox body Mustang,
and the entire chassis was built using Ron Champion's "How to build a sports car for
250#(British Pounds). Most chassis sites sell the bare frame for $2500+, so I believe
    that my purchase price was a "steal"... ;D ;D ;D ;D

        Total awesomeness!

Is the rest of the body "tub" included!

        More inline 6 love! Sweetness!

This thing should be an absolute riot..... probably a good idea to have that really talented weldor brother of yours have a careful look at all those welds... just to make sure the kids were doing right while they were putting this thing together.

Plans for now are to complete the assembly...
          -Wiring
          -Brakes
          -Interior
          -Body panels(not included)

The final welds were done by the auto tech teacher, not the students.

The chassis weighs 400lbs. sans drivetrain/suspension. I'm guesstimating
that the complete car will weigh 1500 lbs.-ish. Even with the I-6, that's a
          10-1 power/weight ratio on basically a go-kart frame. Should be a blast...

Very nice...Seth told me about it last night,
as he ate, and played on my computer.

Cool little car. How pricey are the body bits? I'm assuming they're readily available. I'll do paint (or teach you) - just say when.
