Finishing the chevy first. then on to the plymouth. A good friend had to knock some sense into me. The plymouth will be a long term project, and will not be out until it's "done".
BTW - the poly engines were NOT a PITA as stated earlier. It was a good solid engine that ran great and held up well. They just didn't make much power. I did a cam swap with my then-brother-in-law's car in '65 - the car responded well to the swap. Probably not much high HP potential but a fine cruisin' motor.
I'd freshen up the Poly with a few upgrades (cam, intake, 4bbl, duals, etc.) and enjoy a REALLY different ride. Gotta keep the pushbuttons, for sure.
Oh, man, the lifter valley on that engine is GROSS!!!
This is such a cool project! However, for the engine, I would have to cast my vote for either the Poly or the 383. A crate 440 just seems so... SBC, even if it does make more power.
Regardless, this thing is just cool sitting still. Great score!
Plans are calling for a 470ish inch 383 stroker. However, once i have the chevy done, i'll most likely go with a mild 383, dressed to look like a '58 golden commando.
and you better believe i'm keeping the pushbuttons!
Hemmings Muscle Machines is doing a series of articles where Dave Dudek of FAST fame is building a stroker 489, but stock looking 383. It might give you some ideas.
poly motor ? you have to getgaskets at a rummage sale
sell it to one of those H_MB types , they like to get lapped by cavaliers in the not-so-hot rod museum pieces , keepin it real
