  • spiff's new project

'58 plymouth sport suburban. 318 poly t-flite. Engine/trans are fresh, no miles. Original cali car, still with the black plates on it. zero rust. It's at Fury jim's for a renovation.

It's a rare car in a rare color. Copper Glow Poly. Should look like a brand new penny, with some metallic in it, but the cali sun has oxidized the paint. More pics when i return from the all chrysler nats.

This vehicle NEEDS to be pushing a mid 60'S T/F dragster.

What a cool ride. That era had such great design and details, especially the tri color interiors.

Are there any perf. parts available for the poly motors?

Kinda... parts are tough to find & intakes & headers can be expensive

Great score! Sorry, but I'm digging the patina. A history of survival that will be lost :'(

Update. Thanks to finds this weekend at the all chrysler nats, it will be getting a dual quad 383, a later model t-flite(still keeping the pushbuttons) and a 3.91 sure grip rear from a b-body.

Kind of a "what if" fury inspired wagon. '58 was the first year for a big block in a plymouth with the 350inch golden commando in the fury.

Killer score that dual quad intake for a 383 is pretty rare....

                        Re: spiff's new project

I actually found a legit date coded '58 fury intake, with '66 date coded wcfb's for $300.

The intake i found that i'm going to use is an old Offenhouser unit, that was already modified to fit edelbrocks on it.

Underhood will be made to look like a legit '58 fury golden commando engine, done by Furyjim.

This will be a project that will be done from now till over the winter. As much as i want it out and driving, time will be taken to do it right.

                          Re: spiff's new project

I hope to do a car right like you're doing with this one someday - I've always scraped and scrounged and made due.

I hope the mach1 will eventually be done right - it's going to be a very long (expensive) process.

These old Chryslers have so much style - love it or hate it - there's no mistaking them for anything else.

Nice work at the swap meet! $300 sounds like a steal for a piece like that dual quad intake.
There's always something new to learn.

Nice score, what a fun car.

I've always heard poly motors were a pita...but I wouldn't know. It'd be great to save it with the car in as-removed condition.

Those black CA plates are from approx. 1964, previously it would have had yellow ones as used from '56 on but once the black ones came out in the early sixties, all were required to change. Keep those if you get new ones! 8)
