Yeah, it's one of those tracks that make you feel like Austin Powers in a hall way with a golf cart.

Well I finally went ahead and converted my 8 pt roll bar to full roll cage. Also added a dash bar, rocker bars, side swing-out bars and through the firewall to the back of the shock tower bars. So is it a 10 or 12 pt now...whatever...

Dash Bar is welded to the side firewall supports and off that on each side are bars running through the firewall attached to the rear of the shock towers, backing up the previously installed front down bars.

The side down bars that form the sides of the halo are tight to the windshield posts and attach to the top of the dash bar.

Then another upright goes from the dash bar to the floor and picks up the rocker bar and side swing-out...

As you can see the original color of my car was Calypso Coral (orange).
Now I just have to mask off and paint everything, clean up some wiring and plumbing for better routing, fit and trim up the new rug and fit and trim my dash cap. Then put it the interior back together.
Our first race of the season is 4/21...
Now with video!

Joe, this is such great stuff! Nice roll cage update, rocker bars and sub frame connectors. When will you take it out again?
Maple Grove is such a great track. I went there for Frank Hawley's school last August and I learned about the staging turn, hug the wall baby.
Would you be willing to share a bit more about your suspension and the other key parts of the combination?Drag Week 2006 & 2012 - Winner Street Race Big Block Naturally Aspirated - R/U 2007 Broke DW '05 and Drag Weekend '15 Coincidence?

Funny, I was writing while you were posting. Now we know when you hit the track next.
Years ago I got dinged for having the fuel pressure isolator in almost that exact location. No issues at your tracks?
I've been looking at adding the strut tower to cage braces. Thanks for posting up your first class job.Drag Week 2006 & 2012 - Winner Street Race Big Block Naturally Aspirated - R/U 2007 Broke DW '05 and Drag Weekend '15 Coincidence?

Bill, no one has ever said anything about the isolator, been on there for years.
Not alot to say about the suspension just yet. Front is all stock style Moog components save for the Calvert 90/10 shocks and Calvert Adjustable Strut Rods (which my alignment guy raved about!) Out back is more of Calvert's finest...Caltrac Bars, Split-Mono Leafs Springs and Calvert 9-way Adjustable shocks set on 9 (hardest setting). When towing I soften them down to 3. Gears are 4.56, slicks are 29.5 x 9 ET Drags with Moroso skinnies up front.
I am planning on redoing the front suspension this summer with all the rollerized stuff from OpenTracker. I am currently accumulating parts, I have the bumpsteer kit and roller spring perches still need to get the upper and lower arms yet.

The roller perches made a big difference on my car, but yours is already reaching for the sky, it'll be interesting to see how suspension efficiency helps you pick up ETDrag Week 2006 & 2012 - Winner Street Race Big Block Naturally Aspirated - R/U 2007 Broke DW '05 and Drag Weekend '15 Coincidence?

Is your car an original fold down? I'm still hunting for some of the Non fold down stuff for mine.
Nope, not a fold down just a standard back seat.

I am not looking to put it on the bumper every pass....

Go straight to the AFCO's then, you'll be glad you did and they have the BNC valving for cars that make cover shot launches on every pass. BTW after seeing your broken shock picture I was reminded that I'd built these shock mounts and used an 'eye' style shock to cure that issue and free things up a bit more.
I didn't have the Afco's on it when I took these pictures, but I do now.
This last one shows the roller perch I got from a Guy Known as F15 Falcon on the Ford boards. The shock tower bracing I added when I dropped the upper mount point in improve the road course handling aspects and camber curve. Doesn't help the drag race set-up at all.

I was leaning toward the Afco DA's, thanks for the recommendation!Last edited by Joe Grippo; March 6, 2012, 08:35 AM.
