What grease do use for window tracks? Just wondering because While I am waiting for my window switches I might as well re-grease those..
Also do you guys believe in that electric conductor grease stuff?( for the window switches?)
I have to install the power window motor and think I got it figured out how to get it in there but noticed the three screws aren't anywhere!!! So I think I will go to the junkyard for that and maybe some power lock switches, plates.

Quick question also while driving this home when I got it with the high beams on they cut out completely. Switched to low beams for a while and then back to high and maybe 1 min to 2 min they cut out again. Talking to my dad he seems to recall a Mail Truck He had a problem on and he said it was in a relay not a fuse. Now I had a similar problem with my 85 gt just never fixed it. He said with a relay it will cycle??. This will be addressed in a couple weeks and I have a chilton book with wiring diagram (been awhile since I read one even longer since I understood one) but just wondering what you guys think it could be? I will probably try to duplicate it and see if it will do it

I used white lithium grease on my window rollers. There might be stickier stuff that would be good to but this was cheap, easy to find, and so far works great!

use wheel bearing grease..
and just enough to coat the track..

and what three screws, for the motor? the factory was rivits,

Correct for the power window motor. On the pass side it has three screws or bolts cant remember now but you are suppose to toque those down to what inch pounds per chiltons.

I used a generous amount then ran them up and down a few times then cleaned up the extra slop on the rollers and edges of the track.

I've always used bolts with locknuts (nuts with plastic insert)

1/4-20 x 1/2" and lock washer worked fine for the ones I've done.

The way I was told, Dielectric grease is for lube and seal of the rubber boot, not for the pins. It's supposed to be non-conductive, but the connectors push it out of the way if they fit correctly. Conductive grease would seem like it would cause a problem if it bridged the pins.

Well on my two days off I went to the junkyard and got some of the things that I needed. And I also forgot some things that I needed also :'( But it was -1 with the wind so I was not going back out there so I decide I will make do with what I got. I decided to start working on the windows, and I got the motor up in there, bolted up, and the new switch that was sitting in my mailbox installed. And drum roll.... NOTHING. Ok so my passenger side window works so I take the new switch out put it on the other side and the switch is ok. So I get to thinking the motor is bad.
I begin taking it out, and notice electrical tape around the wire harness. From my experience with electrical tape and Mustangs is that when there is electrical tape someone did something and it is usually wrong!!
So I start peeling the tape off and I already see one wire that is broke out of the white window switch pigtail. Continue to unravel and a total of two that are broke. I do some testing and I still have power there which is good?? So I start looking for replacement connectors and so far I am on day two 5 parts stores later and nothing even close!!
NOW I found something close online that was gm and went back up to napa to see if they had that and they didn't they said go to gm directly. Beings we have fairly big dealership in town with a big service shop I figured I would try it.
I took my switch with my chicken scratch drawing, and told them what I needed.
Here is what I was told. All we have for that would be in a big box. They have no part numbers on them so I have no way of looking them up. Sorry.
I told him I only needed two and I would look through the BIG BOX myself and pay him $10 for 2 connectors.
I was told there is nothing he could do for me
Now I can understand if there was a lot of people there but there was no one there at all. They weren't on the phone. There was 2 of them.
I have never had a problem or a beef with gm before (heck there is 2 in my drive way right now) but I will tell you this much. If that's how they treat customers then I will drive right by them to the ford dealer next month when I look for another car. RANT OVER
But anyway I found the right connector online ordered 25 online for 10 bucks I guess I will wait on those so I my days off were a complete waste.

Oh yeah, had that experience numerous times...but don't pick on GM. It happens at any dealership where the parts counter is devoid of 'car guys.' All to often that's the case nowadays.

Well I got the correct terminal connectors for the power window switch pigtail( they were actually 18-20 ga. for ford fuel pump). The PW motor that had tested on it actually works ;D and I started putting the "new" door panels on. (these where in the back seat when I bought it) Everything seems to be going good and looks like it will work. I need to fix the pigtail from the switch to motor( 2 wire) where the little plastic clip that everyone pretends like they are playing operation on until snap. Well it was already broke. I think a zip tie to keep the two connected should work with maybe some electrical tape to keep moisture out will work. ( unless someone has a better solution?)
Then from a post of BBR I need a 2000lb press to flatten the door panels and when the rest of my parts get here I should be putting them back together for the final time.( Until I take them off again ;D anyone know how that goes?)

I don't have to work tomorrow so I will be going to order some Dynomax/walker tailpipes from O'reilly's. Some butt connectors, more heat shrink, and some other stuff I can't live without because I am moving on to wiring up my CD player and some other small stuff that has been bugging me.
I still been trying to figure out what to use for a mount beings they don't sell anything but a universal one and I figured I could just as well make one. It probably won't be secured very well for now because I might be pulling the dash later to dye the dash and then I could glass it in of something.

Usually I wouldn't take very much time on a cd player but I will update with pics tomorrow and a little story as to why I am installing a 7 or 8 year old cd player and have been buying parts of eBay to refurbish it..

Hopefully will have plenty of PROGRESS PICS tomorrow for you guys.

One of the tricks that I use when trying to figure out electrical problems with windows, etc, is to test with a battery pack from my power tools. I used it to help me decide whether or not my power window problems were with the switch or motor. Just hook the connector up to the motor leads and see if the motor operates. I had to stick some bare wire connectors to the motor connector so that it could extend the connection out to where I could touch them with the battery. Works like a charm.

Ordered tailpipes today and started working on the cd player.
I ordered a wiring harness hoping that It wasn't hacked to bad but unfortunately it is bad bad bad. I got color codes of the internet those would work if they wouldn't have ran telephone cable as speaker wire. I have seen some bad hack jobs when it comes to stereos but someone was desperate!!

Now before I get carried away I wanna share a story about this CD player. My best friend in high school bought it in high school and I helped install it in his mom's escort wagon. It was a pretty expensive CD player back in 2001 fast forward a couple years and probably 4 or 5 cars he had it in. He always had a Bumpin stereo even if it was a ford festiva.

Well my friend was involved in a vehicle rollover in Afghanistan Nov. 29 2004 that took his life.
His mother gave all of his close friends something of his. Someone got his s10 that he was putting a v8 in. Someone got his tools.
I got his CD player.
That is why I am trying to take my time and make sure it is installed securely so if someone tries to steal it, it wont be as easy as they think.

I know every time I cruise with the tops off and turn up a song that I like its because of him. Kind of like the old days cruisin the loop in high school with him. Just being dorks, listening to music to loud :o
