Re: Bamfster's Drag Week Trailer ...

One thing I'd do right from the start is replace the wiring and lights!

Seems every time an older trailer is involved, there's wiring involved!

The wiring kits are simple and cheap since you've got a short trailer and no trailer brakes.
There's always something new to learn.

Wiring is already new (last summer camping trip), but I would like to add a 12 volt battery and have it charge off the car's alternator when it's going down the road. Add a simple power inverter and keep the cordless tools batteries topped off.

The extra 12v battery idea is a good one I thing, just remember a diode in the charge wire so it doesn't backfeed/draw from the supply. Or your inverter could keep a Booster pack charged too, inlou of an extra battery maybe. Some 12v oval clear back-up lights for tractor trailers make nice/cheap work lights too, and don't draw alot of amps. I have four mounted on the ceiling of my storage trailer, and hooked to an old car battery, makes it like daylight in there.

I liked Jay Brown's DW trailer, and didn't realize that you Dignlif were the same guy with the bad ass Mustang coupe, dude, I love your trailer and car!!!!!

I've always wished Hot Rod would/ would have done an article on the trailers of Drag Week, and show the good ideas to the travelling world. You don't have to be away from home a week to be prepared. Growing up in a family Towing and repair biz, I always pack more "ammo" than I need

My trailer might have a APU. (Auxiliary Propulsion Unit) I'm thinking an 8hp B&S engine connected to a live axle on the trailer to push the car down the highway in the event of failure. lol

Haha, that reminds me of when someone said that my POS trailer would eventually become a diesel pusher. :D

Re: Bamfster's Drag Week Trailer ...

                  From the 2009 rules:

"- Each competition vehicle may tow a single trailer of up to 12 feet long from ball to tail and 6 feet high from ground to top, including the height of anything carried on top of the trailer. Alternately, a U-Haul 4x8-foot box trailer may be used. Trailers may not contain any components that contribute to cooling, charging, oiling, or fueling the competition vehicle while the trailer is being towed."

It says nothing about providing power for the competition vehicle, so I guess you'd be ok!

only thing I hate about trailors that small is they bounce all over the place,,
wonder why no ones made one with the axle hung like a 32 highboy and airshocks/bags..
it seem it be cheap and easy, not as cheap as those one foot long leaf springs but.. it not hop all over the road..
I want to find a mid 90's to early 00's gmc s-10 bed with frame and axle and build a trailor, We had a basic trailor like yours(bigger) for boyscouts and it was a bouncy uncontrolable p.o.s.
                    good luck..
