started the cluch fan delete. needed or rotate the crank over so the piston on #3 was lower in the hole. so i could easther remove the skid plate and do it formt he bottom or remove the fan shroud and cluch fan and do it from the top.

i picked top sense the cluch fan is going buy buy any way. i was impressed with the room in there

i wounder if a 429/460 would fit hmmm

I think the 4.6 is dimensionally larger than a 460... and may be heavier.

i think a 460 is longer but narrower.

not sure on weight but when the 4.6 dies gives me some options on what to do

Aluminum heads and electric fans. I'm sure it would fit. E40D and some 2.73's, it should even get decent mileage ... I had (have) a '74 Mark IV that would pull 17 on the highway. Okay, maybe 8 in town, but still, not bad on the highway. Texas is pretty flat between Dallas and Midland. One big hill (Ranger), 4 trees, lotta sand, dodge the tumbleweeds.

This thought has gone through my head more than once. In a big fat GS Mercury Marquis. Perfect sleeper / race car tow truck. Air ride for the tow truck part.

with the cam phaser/oil pressure issues, spark plug breaking, and lack of aftermarket it would not be worth it

my car does not have air ride do to it's life as a patrol car but it still makes a great tow truck. fromt he factory it is rated at 5,000 lbs towing capacity :D

my car is also pretty light from the factory with aluminum hood, trunk lid, and bumpers. only the 91-97s though in 98 ford went to steel and the weight went up. my car tips the scales at 3,775lbs with a full tank

IIRC v-10s didn't come with phasers, they're just solid gears. I think your biggest hurdle would be getting the money together for custom cams, though supposedly comp makes some. I thought Ford finally got on the ball and put more threads on the 3-V heads. Realistically though you'd be doing it for the novelty. You could probably start to build a really nice BBF for just the money you'd have in cams...sadly

the 3v v10s had VVT just like the v8 3vs. if the oil pressure drops below 25psi the phasers can not hold position do to the valve spring pressure

and the 3vs do have more threads but the plugs get stuck in the heads on the 3vs and the porcoline gets stuck in there has to be broken that blown out and pray it all left the chamber or it will need a new engine. 3vs literlay suck ass to do a tune up on it is one of those jobs that it is low man on the totem pole here at the dealer as it does not pay enough if even one plug breaks

here is how 3v plugs typicaly come out of the head

I think I hated the Cutlass Calais mostly because they tossed all of them at me. I think all design engineers should have to spend a year in the field working on the shit they design before it can be approved. I bet that would change a lot of designs. GM's tilt / turn signal switch would be a good example.

That right there is sinful and embarrassing. W... T... F.

What's the story on the air ride? I was thinking an airbag setup as a helper, not the primary suspension, so I went and looked. Holy crap, I thought they stopped doing that?! I've got a LSC laying ON the weeds that I'm going to have living hell getting on the trailer. I'm really dreading it. I may have a rollback get it, I'm not sure I can swing it. I have the control arms and springs to replace it but getting it to / in the garage is going to be interesting.

I guess I'm gonna have to pay attention to the spring setup, I wasn't aware they were still doing that. That's what I get for not paying attention to the blue hair cars for so long. Grin.

I actually like the wiper/turn signal switch....

Anyway to your blown air bag problem, can you jack it up enough to try to put a block of wood in the suspension to get it off of the bumpstops?

Good Lord - more reason for me to hate the modular engine family as a whole. Really - what redeaming qualities do these engines have? I would love to hear the higher ups try to convince a dealership mechanic why the modulars are so much better than the windsor based V8's they replaced. I work at Ford and I'm embarassed by the entire modular line up until the "coyote" version came out. GM trumped Ford horribly with the LS vs Modular. I'll stick with my pushrods thanks. Gosh that's embarassing.

I may try that - if I can get a jack under it, I may put it in the air and back the trailer under it. The trick will be getting a jack and something to put the jack on under the car. It wouldn't be the first time I've done soemthing stupid like that. I may use the engine hoist on the sway bar to lift it up enough to get a jack/support under it.

The Fiat got it's e-brake stuck halfway off the trailer, so I drove the trailer out from under it. The Fox Mustang wouldn't roll, rusty brakes, and I was in a hurry and pissed. Tied it to the bronco with a strap and drove the trailer out from under it. This would just be backwards. lol. I had to back the trailer under the Fox because I refused to break the column or drill the lock and didn't have keys, it was going up it at too much of a sideways angle so I changed the angle. I hate doing things alone, when I get pissed about it, things get creative sometimes.
