"Remy-Z, you've outdone yourself again, I thought a Mirada was the icing on the cake of rodding, but this Imperial is the spread of little 99-cent candy letters spelling out "EAT ME" on top of that cake."
I'd replace the fake convert top with a vinyl top since you have all the trim pieces. Since there is fiberglass under the convertible material, it's unlikely that it's rusted out. A vinyl top would give it an unique look.
I used to degrease the underside of my car every spring. Yeah, I was anal. Not anymore.
I have to say I've never seen one of these tops - interesting. I would pull it off and keep it - you just don't know what will be collectible in 20 years.
Stiney as we already know - is brilliant - yes 100 times yes on the rhino lined roof if you have pitting issues.... if the roof is saveable in nice metal - paint it white and put the trim pieces back on - it will be a very unique and cool "old school" look for a notch.
Then when the wedding financial hangover is done, remove and sell the 255 and begin the build of an aluminum headed 331 roller smallblock.
John, I don't know if it would survive being taken off. The seam in the picture snapped apart in my hand. It's like that all the way around the car and the trim isn't any better. If the metal is good I might just have it painted because the ridges should be in the fiberglass (hopefully).
My goal right now is to figure out if anything besides the valve covers are leaking. I'd love to ditch the 255 for anything else, but nothing can be done till spring, especially since it won't be driven this winter.
Who needs sugar and spice and everything nice? I'm a Southern girl - give me cars, guns and whiskey on ice. ~Mrs. Remy-Z
I'm not speaking about saving the vinyl over the fiberglass - just the fiberglass itself, but if it comes apart in your hands (old 'glass has a way of getting brittle) Selavi - get out the 80 grit and the power sander - take it down to metal - self etch primer, and you're good against rust for a while at least, for some time and about $25 in paper and spray cans.

Selavi? It took a minute to figure out that one. Thank goodness I remember one thing from HS french. It's c'est la vie. Such is life.
indeed, ask a guy 20 years (or more) your senior if he ever thought such and such vehicle would be valuable .... My Dad - now 82, would have never believed a chevy II, nova, dart, duster, falcon, fairlane, vega, or any of the other "Grocery getters" of thier time would be worth anything....
