The big chunk of aluminum missing is a suspension mount that comes off the diff cover. Unfortunately the half shaft flange was also broken. Extra bolts have been ordered for next time.

What are we seeing here? It looks like a big chunk of aluminum something is missing, but it also looks like a few bolts are gone that could bolt that CV joint/shaft back up and going again.
