  • I hate to say it but any NHRA inspector worth his salt is gonna gak at the fuel system being so close to the bell housing without some sort of protection. Mounting the fuel system (reg, etc) to the firewall is also a no no.

Just wanted to throw that out there. Just a safety thing, we don't need anything catching on fire.... ever.

    • Hmm, there are quite a few pictures of folks with it mounted on the firewall, but you're definitely right on the rules with the regulator. The line is steel braided so that is technically fine. I'll move it later, it's not very likely I'm going to have a flywheel wiz through there anytime soon. If it does, the MegaSquirt will shut the engine and fuel pump off as soon as the pressure drops and any flames will melt all the hoses there and water pump will pour water every where at 17 gallons per minute =P

Think tech would buy that fire suppression system?

Actually, the long term plan is when I build/install the turbo engine, I'm looking at getting an EFI gas tank with intake pump, put the whole thing out back, maybe even run returnless with the MegaSquirt controlling fuel pressure. I'll run the lines up the driver's side and clean it up that way then as well.

            • When I started that post I was thinking you were running a standard trans. I could just see the flywheel chawing it's way through the bellhousing and into the pump and fuel lines with a giant fireball ensuing. Extra crispy is for chicken, not Randals.

It at least has to be ranked pretty high up there. This is just a six cylinder car

Forgive me as I'm only on page ten of reading the whole thread.. but for the turbo engine
is there enough room above the valve/cam cover and hood to make the intake do a comb over al la ford mpefi intakes and have the intake runner go over to the pass side putting the inlet on the pass side getting most of the intake away from the heat of the exhaust header/manifold that will be higher than n/a when under boost?

I don't want to go over the top and hide the great cam housing lines. Current plan is to keep the exhaust manifold intact, run the hotside pipe around to the driver's side. Similar how a single exhaust V8 system is plumbed, except where the other exhaust manifold would connect would be a turbo and no bends going to the rear of the car. The turbo will feed the intercooler on the passengerside and the intercooler's outlet will come around the radiator on the drivers side, which is where the engine intake is.

First I cut the advance plate into a tab.

Then I took the top plexiglass plate and drilled a hole in it that the sensor fits through. I contemplated going with a full grommet set up, but the sensor really needs to sit on the plexiglass to get low enough for it to pick up the tab. I used a cut down transmission dipstick tube grommet to minimize vibration. I might zip tie or black RTV it on there. Then I drilled and tapped a hole for a 1/4-20 bolt.

Then plopped it on the engine. The wiring harness is pointing towards the coolant temp sensor so the wiring harness should look relatively clean there. If the sensor doesn't reliably pick up the tab I'll either bend the tab a bit or weld a washer or strip of metal to the top of it. Hopefully this is sufficient to run as a cam sensor.

Ever think of using this.. cam sensor??

you'd only use the cam sensor and top plate, you'd skip the module and coils.. and use the ciol mount spot for the c.o.p. ignighter mount. By early spring I should have 2 here, I can ship you one to look at, to see if the ohc 6 and iron duke used the same distributor drive set up.. and by looking at the photo's in my 66 tempest/lemans/gto shop manual, they look like the same distributor bodys, with just different point /electronic cams on the shafts..

                              • I don't see how that's going to work. If the scale is anywhere to close the sensor is far too long and looking at iron duke distributors the shaft length appears to be significantly longer.
