    All winners!

None had titles.. Thus they got cut up when we got done..
In fact I got a load of cut up frames in my truch for a scrap run monday am ..

When running a FE motor, you need a box on the intake to add water, there s no way on the radiator that comes stock with these cars..
LOL yeah I actually like to hear that they can take a hit.

I have seen those vent boxes going to the intake and wondered about the requirement.

It looks like you're about 9 1/2 hours North of me so if you guys run into some more parts that are too big/ heavy to ship I'd consider running up there on a weekend, get a room, and head back.

I have been toying with the idea of a solid axle Gasser that in street trip had one set of coil springs and maybe a couple of inches of lift and then having a strip set of springs with a much more aggressive lift.

I'm sure to do it properly you'd need two sets of springs and shocks (but 90/10s in the rain is iffy) and maybe a second steering link. But the idea of a DW car that is pointing to the sky at the track and more "reasonable" getting between track is a good one.

You know I was wondering if there would be a way to have it a bit lower for normal driving. I'd have to look at the setup and see how we could do it. Maybe even having two mount points or something like that for the leafs. The rear shackles on the car are already flipped down so it sits higher in the back. I saw the straight axle kits that Speedway has are full height, 4" lower or 8" lower.

Good score, Rich. That will be a great hot rod. I'm with you on the temptation to axle the thing. About your blown 289 idea, you know a stroker kit fits in a 289 block, right? Hehe.

I would consider the 360 route since you'll end up with a stroker kit and new heads anyway. I found one here with c6 attached for 300.00 complete. I bet he would come down. There's a gazillion of them in trucks. For 2 bills, a balanced, forged piston stroker kit seems like a natural.

I just saw some what look like Crites 61-66 t-bird headers too, wonder if they would work? Seems like they would.

Thanks for getting this, I was doing the cursory 390 search and just found a good looking 69 Galaxie convertible for 4100. Thanks. A lot. lol.

I'll vote gasser. That huge car would look awesome as one IMO.

My $0.02 (worth what you paid for it). I think this car is too big to pull off the gasser look - would look just too ungainly. Before you cut the car up I'd see if there's a model kit and try the look on that. If it was a Fairlane I think the gasser thing would be great. But as a cruiser it would be EXCELLENT!

yeah it is a pretty big car but that's part of what has me waffling. I find tons of pictures of cool looking cruisers but only a couple of gasser/ super stocks.

Well I wrote that earlier and just got back from having breakfast with my father in law and saw a black suede Caddy sledded out and man that looked cool. Damnit, now I'm leaning back toward air bags and hammering it. Not black suede though, white with 17" solid steelies painted white from Wheel Vintiques and some decent rubber on them.

One thing I thought about at breakfast was the comment about 'before hacking it'. I was thinking I could do the straight axle mounts onto the stock frame (haven't even looked at it) so that kinda woke me up. I figured I could always reverse it. I really don't wanna cut off the front frame section for straight frame rails like I would probably have to...unless I had a spare frame I guess.

Reason they are good derby cars is the firewall frame section is not too curvy like most cars.. Once you look at it you will see... Thus it should take a straight axle pretty easily..

Holy mother of galaxy perfection! LOOOOOOVE IT!

Quite literally between a few friends and I - we could put the parts together for you to run a 390 from the parts stash - we could bring them with us to drag week, hint hint. I would run one of Barry's stroker kits in a 390 with a vintage streetmaster intake, electronic conversion, and nice chrome valve covers, tri - y coated headers, and a man pedal. I prefer the non gasser look on these because the body shape is so long low and wide already, it's sort of counter intuitive to sky something that looks low??? I like the white lightweights you've pictured.

That would be really cool John. I would definitely prefer getting stuff from someone I trust. I'm sure I could make room on the trailer somewhere to tie that thing down for the trip home.

Well - start putting together a shopping list! The most expensive part may be the bell housing adaptor to put the 5 or 6 speed behind the FE - maybe American powertrain has something?

I would get edelbrock heads - by the time you find good old heads (FE's are a can - o worms head wise) then have them machined, ported, etc, - you're better off with a fresh set of aluminum heads. Start hunting for an edelbrock streetmaster, or perhaps an FE Performer RPM air gap if they make one, I don't remember.

Get the 445 kit from Barry - I'd have him balance it so it's a bolt together deal when you get it - then you just have to get the block machined and put it together. Depending on how crazy you want to get with the camshaft - a lot of the FE forum guys do very well with off the shelf comp flat tappet hydraulic cams. Going to roller cam on an FE comes with about a $750 buy in price.
