I might be the only one that wants to see this thing turned into a gasser, but the advantage of spending 28 hours driving west with Rich is I could spend all that time convincing him to do it

OOH that would be a bitchin' fascia! And I wish I had a Willy's gasser truck to put in it too. I will definitely keep this in mind.

John, I believe I would be getting too close to the rear fence if I extended very much in that direction but I could possibly add one or two rafter widths as you guys suggest and then build the bigger shop with some overlap/ connection. I agree with the separation of activities idea. I have visited some big shops and they usually had their buildings setup in sections like you mention. I would like to eventually make the smaller shop into the primary fab area and have the other shop setup for maintenance, upkeep, and main storage area.

btw - this picture was taken before we got it so all the tractors and stuff are gone until we can pick something up.

Rich - Dan's suggestion is fabulous - if you can simply continue the trusses along the gable in on direction to make the space wider that's a great idea and probably the least expensive - poles, trusses, and steel for three walls and a roof, instead of four.

The more shops I see - the more I think it makes a great deal of sense to separate the shop into pieces - for us northerners - less to heat - but for everyone - it's nice to keep the "dirty work" separate from the clean work - or just have storage in part of the building with just the essential lights and outlets, and keep the working space free of "storage" items.

Check on codes, set backs, etc, and see how much more building you can get away with...

I had a small corner in my shop that wasn't going to be useful for anything else so I put the compressor there. It is, of course, kind of noisy but it doesn't run all that often. I may put a foam core box around it one of these days. Having that shed is a good deal for sure though a lot of the guys around here just put them outdoors. I agree on the flex hose - I just have a short length (14"IIRC) and it keeps the compressor from shaking the black steel.

I was actually thinking about that this morning on the way to Kelly Moore to pick up paint for inside the house. It would be cool to open up part of the side wall and just build out to the right. That would make getting around in there easier as I wouldn't have to exit one and enter the other plus moving stuff like tool boxes and such back and forth. Honestly there will be some time before I can afford the second shop, especially if I keep going to DW and they keep moving it further away.

I like the idea of not putting hard lines between the two buildings to keep the shaking/ rattling down. I was already considering using some dynamat type material on the shed areas close to the compressor. I can probably get away with making a 4" hole in each wall with windlace lining it and just run a short flex line in to feed a manifold/ splitter mounted on a wall support and go from there.

As for the dinosaurs I kinda think I know what you're talking about but I am so tired from working on the house I'm seeing fuzzy so I'll look again tomorrow.

They left these cool oil tanks, not sure what I'm gonna do with them but I have some old gas pump stickers I could put on them after cleanup and repaint if I decide to put the work into them. They still seem to be usable though so may find a home for them if I can trade for something I can use.

I hate to say it but I remember them as well as the 1 quart glass jars with galvanized spouts that they would keep in racks in front of the gas stations. I also seem to remember those big green tree top eating animals as well as those other big green animals that ate those big green tree top eating animals. I always wondered what happened to them?

we're still considered county even though we have the newer city houses behind us and to the right and left within a ~ 1/4 mile so I will try to get the new building up before we get incorporated to get in before the 'rules' hit.

    FANTASTIC!
great idea o the compressor - hydraulic hose works good to give you some flex and isolate vibration - that's what I'm using to tie my two tanks together.

Looks like there is plenty of room for expansion - depending on RULES....

I'll probably put my compressor in this shed outside the shop and just run the line in through the wall
